Being in the woods with good friends is what its about with me, the guy I road with last weekend had just had knee surgery a few weeks back so I was trying to help him out but it was an honor to ride in his 60. The guy I'm riding with this weekend has a very well built v8 4rth Gen runner it will be a completely different style of wheeling, so yes watching others I think will help me. I'd still rather drive mine obviously.

well Ive been trying to get around to updating this for awhile now except theres not much to update. I slowly gathering parts have to order a few at a time as I can afford them. I have all 4 ball joints genuine toyota, should have the tie rods, inners and outers with in the next few days. I have been down with what I thought was the flu but after a DR visit turns out its a little worse so rest for a few days so I dont miss any work.

Id like to throw out a question and get yalls opinion on a couple things.
I know the tundra brake upgrade is very popular and I need new pads on the front and now is the time to do it, however not long after I got my runner I replaced both calipers and I dont realy want to spend more money on new ones again. so what Im wondering is can anyone suggest a really really good replacment pad brand style etc.
also I think my master cylinder is going bad and am wondering if there is a upgrade for that or if I should just replace it with a OE unit.
thanks in advance for the advice and as always thanks for checking in.

Hey bubba, sup? Sorry bout rhe infirmity!

Corax did losts of research on this one. Well, the T100 etc stuff, for 1st gens, but I think on that too. Theres a thread I just read on this, typed in "tundra brake upgrade, 3rd gen 4runner". Expedition Portal and one other had GREAT write ups

I did the tundra upgrade after warping toyota and brembo rotors. Now I've got no warping problems. If that hadn't been the case I don't know that I'd have bothered since my calipers were oe but fine. They do feel 'stoppier' but it could easily be all in my head. Got one heck of an imagination you know.
You'd have to replace the rotors, calipers, pads and either grind on the wheel or at the bare minimum get 1/4" spacers. Spacers work-ish but they suck because they eat up a lot of stud thread and make it harder to get the tire on to boot. They also allow a tiny bit of upper a-arm rub. Adapters=lots better. Seems like a lot of things to replace/buy if those parts are working perfectly fine.
I replaced the brake hoses with ones from wheeler's offroad while I was in there too, they were needing it.

Brake pads...NOT WEAREVER!!! I'm using Wagner Thermoquiet now and get very little brake dust plus they stop, but I'm no braking connoisseur. I read a lot of 'get oem' but have no experience to help you there.

Feel better soon! I'd send you some matzo ball soup but every time I try the envelope gets all soggy and the postman all frowny.

Nice Habanero! They do make plastic bubble lined envelopes. Just a thought.

Jason, for a stock replacement I've had good luck with HAWK pads. When I was snowboarding a lot I'd heat the brakes up going up and down the mountain roads. Usually heading up early in the am cause I'd like to be one of the first ones on the slopes. Anyhow, in my pickup, I must've swapped out 4-5 different sets. HAWK seems to give off a little more dust but the benefits were worth it to me. On my vehicles that "Performance Friction" makes a pad or shoe for, I'll run those every time. Not that much more expensive but definitely a great brake pad. Again, more dust but they'd hold the heat/ braking power really well. Just remember there is a bedding in process when installing new pads and rotor's. Hope this helps. Also, if you do order the HAWK's, I think I have a discount code for the site I ordered mine from..I'll check.

Hey TED, sup brudda?

I just saw, I THINK, a sale on Hawk and Akebono at www.autopartswarehouse.com or this one has others, .... like Chromebrakes Ceramics, Disc-Italia(I heard very good things from a buddy, .... ) >>> I already punched in 97 4Runner, ........ >>>

http://www.brakeworld.com/ProductLis...TA&mod=4RUNNER

I seem to find the easiest way to most of them, lately, through Amazon, which lists like 20 different sellers... AND, Ebay, believe it or not, has been having decent deals... THEY'RE STRUGGLING, like many of us, I guess! lol.

GET WELL, SOON, HOMIE!

thanks for the input hab, I really dont want to do the tundra brakes at this point. I think a good quality replacement will do me fine for awhile. with all the other exspences I have going into this thing I really dont want to spend the coin at the moment. thanks to for the well wishes, I dont understand why mail men are so grumpy about packages that drip.

Since this latest project began I have been determined to fix/upgrade what ever I can, it has really made for a long and some what frustrating ordeal but I'm going to stay the course and use the best parts I can. That said I have been doing a lot of research on different things, new coil overs for starters the spacers I have in the front have never gave the lift it should have do to the coils being worn out and the bushings being bad etc. So its going to set me back some but I've decided to purchase a set of bilstien 5100s and toy tech 3 inch lift springs. The OME shocks in the rear will also be getting replaced. I really hope that going; this route will improve my ride and make this thing more enjoyable to drive.
I'm getting most of my parts gathered up and should be able to start getting it back together soon.
Another change that will be coming is new tires. I have never been happy with the pro comps and was looking for something different, well I came up with the bright idea of putting the pro comps on my pickup so now I have no choice. A buddy of mine has a set of BFG kms 305 70 16s that I'm looking at.
Not much of an update but I wanted y'all to know I'm still plugging along. Thanks for checking in.

I already run 1 inch adapters now, he's going to let me test fit them mounted on a set of 80 series wheels like you have on yours before we finalize any kind of deal just to make sure they fit the way I want. I have read a lot about running them some guys make it work so say its not worth the effort. The only reason I'm considering it is he offered me a really good deal.

It took me a lot of finessing to get my 285s to not rub as well, I figured the body rub stuff was because the front didn't sit as high as it should. I wonder now if I won't fall in the its not worth it category.

Boy I would hate to do any pinch weld smashage on your truck but we do what we have to right. 285s and 305s are roughly the same height but the 305 is wider, but yes they are around a 33 depending on manufacturer tire style etc.
