You might give the end of the stud a gently tap with a hammer to help break the rust free.

Definately easier to replace donuts now, but I did mine with exhaust in place and it was not too bad after cutting the old donuts off.

 

It's over! The hubby joined me in working on the exhaust again today. Our biggest problem once we decided to cut the studs was our right angle drill is more than half dead and we needed a drill bit. Up to Lowes for the drill bit, Lowes, Home Depot, Sears and finally, Harbor Freight for the right angle drill. Put it together, the drill bit tip broke and the right angle drill made it a whopping 30 seconds. What a fiasco. We finally got the studs cleared out and the exhaust went on just. like. that.
Stupid studs.
Mr. Hubby and I worked well together today, I had fun in the cold with him. It doesn't hurt how he looks in jeans, either....
SO.
It's done it's done it's done it's done it's done it's done it's done it's done!

And hopefully the 99 won't need exhaust for another few years AND we won't even bother messing with the studs unless they come right out.

Now comes the wait for whether or not the new cat will throw a code or not. Supposedly Cali exhaust can be annoying that way, but the 96 doesn't seem to be picky. Maybe we'll get lucky!

Yep! We'd have saved a lot of time if we'd just gone ahead and dealt with the studs right away when they'd proved their stubbornness and if we'd had a working right angle drill and sharp bits or at least if the ones we spent over an hour and a half running for worked!

what's so scary about cut-off wheels? just wear gloves and keep your shirt buttoned all the way up... and safety glasses of course..

I decided to go to the bigger oil filter, the one for the V8, #90915-YZZD3
The extra filter material is nice enough and I'm hoping it'll be easier to get a wrench on it.

 

Congrats. All in all how long were those skids off? Bet it feels good.

 

October??? It was back when I did the lower control arm bushings, I think. You are correct, it feels GREAT! A whole lot less nekkid.

Did you get your lca bushing situation resolved?

 

Not yet. Talked with customer service at energy suspension yesterday and he said he'd never seen that problem. Said he'd have an engineer look at it and get back to me right away. That was ... 23 hours ago. I guess we have different definitions of right away. My dealership has them in stock and the price is not too bad. Today is slammed but I hope I can get them tomorrow. Then I just need to find a press. :grumbe:

Good work on yours though. I never want to work on exhaust anything. I've only ever heard people talk about how everything is cemented in place.

 

dang hab I dont have time to check in for a few days and you do all kinds of cool stuff. theres all kinds of things that can be done with a front receiver, I had one on an old cherokee I had and used it all the time. Im with you on being a little timid with the cut off wheel, never had anything bad happen but boy it can quick. I hate exaust work to glad to hear it came together for ya.

 

JBurt....there was a thread on lower control arm bushings recently...I'm very tempted to try it next go round, which better not be before 550,000 miles.

Thanks Jason. I think I hate exhaust work too, now, and I am still not liking the whole cut off wheel business even if it did make it a lot easier.

 

Maybe it's the steampunk in me but I love cut-off wheels... stuff in the ear plugs through on the goggles and gauntlets and let the sparks fly... then again I also love quik-cuts [big gas powered concrete saws] for these I wear masks... the ultra fine dust is very "lung friendly" and will plug you solid with abrasive powder real fast.

Creative mayhem... it's kind of my thing lol.

 

Chainsaws I'm ok with. Sawzall, not a problem. Even the cute little cut-off for the Dremel makes me cringe.

Holy mackerel! I'm not sure if you've ever seen those photos of that guy that's permanently wearing the 5 inch cutting disc as a forehead hat?!?!.... But ever since seeing those pictures I've always used extreme caution when using an angle grinder or skill saw. So anyway, how you be girl?

I be excellent. Might get a day off work and the kid a day off school tomorrow, waiting to see if we get a snow day. The exhaust sounds nice, quiet, but a tad deeper than stock. The moo box *isn't* but it needs to warm up to know if it is 'fixed' or not. Truck's putting along pleasingly, I'm going to have to invent another reason to mess with it.

I've never been a fan of anything with razors. Cut myself too many times and too easily.

Never heard of a cutoff wheel flying apart but I can imagine how that would be really scary, especially if you're under a car.
