Hey by the way, if u don't mind answering. My girlfriend loves this model of Tacoma. I told her to buy a 2002 or 2003+ 4x4 Tacoma. But I'm sure u know 4x4 versions of that body style are expensive as hell. And when she came across me looking at your pix she fell in love with your tacoma and wanted to do something similar in case she couldn't find a 4x4 Tacoma.

So my question is if she was to buy a "PreRunner" like yours how much would she be looking to invest on converting it to 4x4 and also installing a SFA? Or hell, even it it was just IFS I really wouldnt care. But what would it cost to convert a prerunner to 4x4?

Sweet ride!!! Not exactly my style but I can respect the heck outta someone willing to hack off the whole front of the truck to build what they want out of the truck! I just finished cutting all the brackets off the frame of an '04 last night. Talk about a chore to grind all those welds smooth! LOL

I think I had around $2,700-$3,000 in the 4x4 conversion. That's a transmission/case, front diff, spindles, new bearings, new cv's, hubs and a few other odds and end. That also is installed.

I swapped it back to 2wd by myself before doing the solid axle. It isn't that bad to do, just time consuming. The solid axle ran me close to $10,000. It could be done a lot cheaper, but I went all out when I did it. When you start throwing in gears, adapters, shocks, and a lot of custom fab work it gets expensive.

If you have any other questions about the 4x4 swap or the solid axle, let me know and I'll do my best to answer them.

I HAVE A QUESTION....... Can I borrow yours? hahahaha. JK> .... REALLY enjoyed reading this/watching what it does!

Saw a beautiful 2005 4WD Taco with SAS, just yesterday, REDETH.... He said, "I bought it with a smashed bed, but no salvage.... I have a shop, so we managed to get it to specs/better than original and THEN swapped ownership once I had the body work/frame work done. THEN, I started the SAS with Fox Adjustable shox, etc., .... All in all it cost me around 8K$. But I have connections and guys doing favors for me on the welding/mods for EXTRA beefy SAS kit set up... So it would have been around 10.5K$..." BUT, that included ARB Air Kit and Locker up there, plus more I didn't know what he was talking about on, hahahaha. HEY, I wont lie... I'm not read up to even be able to START this just yet... Let alone some of the terminologies, lol.... But SOME day, never know, thanks to threads like this!

Oh man... That cost a lot. She isn't that much of a hardcore off roader to invest that much into a truck. I guess she might be better off buying a Tacoma already stock with 4x4. lol

But I will definitely need opinions and advice on my 4runner's future SAS. Once I get all the parts ill definitely hit you up for advice.

Thanks bud, I'm glad you have enjoyed the read. Doing the solid axle is definitely a job and a half to do, but it's worth every penny. The great thing about it is you can go mild to wild with your setup. You can SAS for next to nothing if you build you own stuff, do you own work and piece it together... ORRR you can do new everything, upgrade every part available and have a next to bullet proof rig. It all comes down to what you intend to do with it.

When the time comes, if you have any questions fell free to hit me up and I'll try my best to help you out!

I loved the Duratracs! I have zero complaints with them... I got 30K out of them and sold them to my buddy who is running them on his 85 pickup now. I will probably run them again my next go around. I like the MTR Kevlars, but I think the Duratracs did better...

Well i have the solid axle already off some toyota truck or 4runner the last guy didnt seem to know but it is confirmed that it is a Toyota axle. I already have four leaf springs to get me 4" of lift. 2 front leafs are Procomp, and the rear springs are Rancho springs. And i'm either gonna go with Bilsteins like you recomended or those Walker Evan shocks i mentioned earlier. and i still need to buy my 5.29 gears for the rear since the front axle already has that gear size. and i wanted to buy front and rear detroit lockers(atleast the rear for now)
there are a still a bunch of parts i need to buy. But i seen that everything that i dont have and still need to get the job done is available on the AllProOffRoad website. but i figure with some help and suggestions i can pul it off.
