Think its the housing or what?

 

Yeah, I’m pissed! I actually had to wait a few days to post this because I was so angry.

Magnuson is the manufacture for the TRD superchargers, that’s the reason I went with them for the rebuild. I figured they would be the best people to do the job, and I paid top dollar for that. I could rant on for several pages but I’ll try my best to hold back, the quality of their work sadly speaks for itself. This is the thing that sucks, if you have a 1st gen SC your pretty much stuck going with them because they no longer manufacture the nose cone for that model, and they have to custom machine a different model to work. When I sent the supercharger back the 2nd time they told me they were going to replace the nose cone, but they didn’t. They just replaced the seal (maybe) and installed my new pulley.

They gave me two options. One, send the whole SC back for a 3rd time and they would expedite the process as much as they can. Or two, they could send me a replacement nose cone and I could do the work myself. After being without a vehicle for two months dealing with this, I went with option two. I should be able to pull the SC and replace the nose cone in a day, I really don’t want to tear it apart for a third time but I don’t have much of a choice.

The nose cone came in on Friday.

 

It's getting tempting; but after driving it with the SC, URD 7th injector and the 2.2 pulley it's worth giving it another try. It runs soooo good!

I also built the truck around the SC, it's heavy and I have the trailer so I would like the extra power I planned. Let's just hope that the third time is a charm and everything works this time. (Knock on wood)

I really couldn’t get motivated to pull the supercharger for a third time this weekend, so I worked on the rock sliders instead.

I was going to build a square tube slider with a round tube kick out, but I changed my mind and went with a simple and clean square tube slider instead. I felt the kick out was overkill for where this truck is going to go, and if I change my mind it’s really easy to add one in the future. I used 2x2” 3/16” square tube.



I didn’t like the look of the gap between the body and slider, so I made a filler plate to clean it up and to minimize the amount of crap thrown on the side of the truck in snowy/muddy conditions.







Then I made some 4x4” 1/4 “ frame plates

Glad to see the square tubeing, I was a little timid about it when I built mine but seeing that you did I feal better about it LOL. Great work they look really solid

 

Love the runner! Everything flows together perfectly.

Hey man I just caught up on your thread because I haven't logged on in a while and I must say that I am truly speechless...Your runner looks absolutely amazing! Your rig is pretty much everything that I want mine to be someday...Your craftsmanship and complete attention to detail are evident in every mod that you do. Please keep up the good work so I can continue to dream and drool...

On another note, sorry to hear about Magnuson and the SC troubles...Hopefully everything works out

 

love the square tubing. too bad no one makes them other than one company and are really expensive compared to tube.

 

I was a little unsure about the square tubing too, but I'm really happy with how they turned out. I wanted something thicker than .120 wall, I also wanted the sliders to blend in and have a cleaner look (like slim running boards) than the round tube kick out style.

I still need to try them out in the rocks; but so far I like the look, ease of getting in the vehicle and they really keep the side of the 4Runner cleaner than before.

Thanks man! It's been alot of work, but I feel that I'm getting close. I have more updates, but it will be a day or two before I can share. I've been really busy at work, and I'm also having computer issues. I don't have time to fight with the computer right now. More updates coming soon ...

 

A little more progress…

Magnuson sent me a replacement nose cone, so I took the supercharger off for the third time and replaced it myself. It went pretty smooth but I did have to pull the impellors out of the housing to reseal the gear drive flange. So far everything is working good and there are no leaks (fingers crossed, knock on wood, etc, etc ).

 

Maybe this will be the final fix on the SC, I know you have to be frustrated with it. Looking forward to more of this build.

 

I also completed a couple smaller projects on my list.

I got my GPS unit installed. Now that I have a rig that is comfortable to drive for longer trips I plan on doing more exploring and running new trails. The GPS will come in handy for getting to these new places, it also displays my correct speed since my speedo is off by 5-12mph (depending on my speed) and the speed limit on most highways and the interstate.

The windshield mount was not going to cut it, so I bought a RAM mount for it and bolted it to the dash. They make different mounts and adapters so if I change, or upgrade units in the future all I need is the adapter for the unit itself.

 

I hope so, everything seems fine so far. On a lighter note I'm getting really fast at removing/installing the Supercharger.

 

I can imagine LOL. The gps mount looks nice my new one I got for my big truck looks simialar.
