Where is the rear liftgate lamp switch?

I have noticed that when my rear liftgate opens the cargo lamp isn't turning on. Yes it is on the "door" setting, but I can't find the switch that would signal when the liftgate is open. This problem is intermittent...

this is just a guess, is it maybe in that latch mechanism? I didn't check when i had the panel off bbut I don't recall seeing a rubber button switch dealy around the edges either.

I was also thinking that. My other thought is that there may be a "mercury switch" like some hood lights use.. I guess I will have to pull the panel and check it out.

It is part of latch mechanism. When I have the light in door position with gate open and push inside the mechanism by hand, the light goes out.

Anybody solve this problem yet?
I too had the same problem, so today I decided to spray some WD40 into the latch mechanism hoping that it would free up something inside. Well it worked, the light turned on right away.

Hope this helps.

What kind of switch is it.. does it just get seized up.

I'm now having a problem with my electric locks.. like a bad ground or soemthing I wonder if this can all be related to corrosion in the tailgate?
