What is the top taillight??????????????????

Ok, i am replaceing some bulbs and for the life of me i can not figure out what the top light on the tail lights are. I got new bulbs thinking they were just out like a lot of others were and that they were running lights but once i put the new ones in they still don't do anything! I just got the truck a little while ago so i have no idea what they ever did.

How the heck do you turn them on and what are they for? is there a break in the line somewhere? ( i know it is not a fuse as i just checked them all when i fixed the trailer lights...)

you talking about the 3rd brake light on the cab?

I'm assuming you have a truck, though you might have a 4runner, but again you might have a truck, but its a 93 or older that doesn't have the 3rd brake light. So in order for us to help you, your gonna need to let us know what you have.

but after doing a little research, I believe you have a 2000 Runner, so you talking about the brake light at the top of the back window? If so, thats just a 3rd brake light and will turn on when you have the brakes applied.

Sorry, i have been outside all day and am very tired. I thought i had my truck in my sig...

Yes, i have a 2000 4runner limited.

and what i am talking about is:

In the tail light there are 3 bulbs. 1 is the brake, 1 is the turn signal but the 3rd one (the top on in the tail light) i can't figure out what it is. It is not that one above the hatch, i know what that one is...

I just can't figure out what the top on in the tail light is. It is a clear lens on it but otehr than that i don't know what it is.

Yeah i read all that but i didn't realize that the Reverse was in the tail light assembly, i am used to it being by the plates.

Thanks for the help! I about to leave on my trip tomorrow (if i can finish the radio with this rain that is... this rain here is a PAIN the last week!) and i wanted to make sure that all the lights are ready so i don't get pulled over in some small town for a stupid thing like that...
