Tranny Problems.

I have a high pitched bearing noise in my
'99 Taco in all gears except 4th. I have been told by many shops that my input shaft bearings are going out and I need to have my tranny rebuilt SOON. Anybody know anything about this. Thanks.

If the problem only happens in 4th, I would suspect the main bearings between the input shaft and the main shaft. If you check the trans specs, I believe 4th gear is a 1 to 1 ratio, which would mean the input and main shafts are turning at the same speed and that bearing is not in use.

Well, whatever it is results in the same solution - replace the transmission eventually. Unless you rebuild transmissions - then Marlin has bearing kits for $150.

It only has 68k on it but the bearing noises are still very loud especially when the temp is above 50 degrees.

Not to be rude, but have you made sure there's enough gear oil in it?

Yes, that was the first thing I checked.

Did you ever get your tranny bearing fixed? I have the same problem. Let me know how you fixed it.

Thanks.

Yes I did but it was not a bearing, it was in the gears. I had AAmco in Lakewood do the work.
