After hearing from just about everyone that I would have no rubbing with the 265/75-16 BFG AT KO's...I am suprised to find that I get some pretty good rubbing with the fronts turned all the way, even on minor bumps (driveways etc...).

I have a 2000 4Runner Limited 4WD. I have some cornfed's on the way, but looks like I really need them installed for any real wheeling. Just getting into my driveway makes noise.


CoolRob sent me the 2.5" rear spacers and I will be getting fronts. I like the stock ride. Should I stay with 2.5" up front on otherwise stock suspension or should I go with 3" if I plan to add an ARB or TJM at some point?
Also, should I add a diff drop if I only go 2.5"??

And, yes I searched... Just have not found answers to these specific questions.

 

I'd say that if you're adding major weight with the bumper a spring/shock upgrade would be better then spacers. If you can afford them the SAW's would be good, you can crank them up when you get the bumper.

Also, when lifting anything over stock, the diff drop is a good idea. Though manual hubs are a better one.

 

if you want bad vibrations and torn/leaky CV boots, then 3" is just right for you.

wait until you install a bumper to adjust your ride height.

REMEMBER: the front bumpers dont cause immediate sag on your front susupension, it takes at least 2 months for the extra weight to "wear out" the coils.

 

I have 265/75/16's and they used to rub too. Then I realised that it was because I have 16 x 8 rims. What size are your rims? that might cause the tires to kick out a little.

 

My Rims are the stock 16X7.

 

I would do a diff drop for 3" for sure. I would probably do one for 2.5"

 

Really strange your getting rubbing problems, even at full compression, I never had any, and that was with my stock suspension, same tires and rims. I do have my stock springs, they are a bit longer than yours, but a better choice would be getting OME springs, it'll make it ride better on the street even.

George, If you get a chance, come by my house, so I can take a look. I'll be around all weekend fabing up my rear bumper. On Sunday, Hungrystu is comming by so we can install his electric fan.

 

Thats super odd. I'm running 265/75/16 on my stock 7" rims. No rubbing whatsoever. However, they are NOT mud tires.

 

I wonder if it has anything to do with the LTD Flares??
I have not really had a chance to figure out where the rubbing is coming from.

 

Ironic that you question the Ltd flares because I was checking out where I get rubbing a few days ago as I was wondering the same thing. I have a set of fairly worn Dueler M/Ts (275/65/16) on mine right now and if I turn right into a driveway at ~8mph I will get a pop from my tire pushing into the inside/base of the passenger flare. If I am backing outta my garage (have to turn strg-wheel all the way right) my tire will catch on the mud-flaps (as I straighten out) that I put on with the same interior contour as the flare. I don't know the diamter of the tire right now but when I go out down there I will measure. The sticker in my door calls for 275's. I will get back to you.

The rubbing seems to be on the little bump on the fender liner with wheels turned all the way to the locks, then hit a bump. Very slight rubbing, but rubbing none the less. I will try and get a pic of the area when the rain stops tomorrow, hopefully.

 

that surprises me too since I run 285/75/16 BFG MT's and I have no rubbing.

I think some of it may have to do with how square a profile the AT KO's have. Most other tires have more rounded corners. On the AT's the transition from tread to sidewall is almost 90 degrees. It is the very corner that rubs the fenderwell when turning and bumping...

my guess as to why you're rubbing would be that the '00 through '02 4Runners came w/ shorter coils, compared to the '96-'99 models. When I bought my 'Runner, I noticed that older 3rds gens had a taller stance than mine. This was confirmed on www.mycolorado.org . Lower stance= less clearance for 32's.

I knew there was a difference in the coils for those years (via Steve's site), but I did not know they were shorter, Heck, I thought they were longer!! Hopefully in a week or two this will be a non issue. Thanks to your conrfeds and some OME front stuff on the way!

 

With your new stuff on it's way soon, with some fender well trimming and bashing the pinch weld you should have nothing to worry about. I'm working even as we speak...

Waiting for paint to dry to put on the bumper...and then next, swap out some 881s for a certain someone I know.

I was wondering... since I have a 2000 and it has slightly shorter coils, could this be the problem. I understand from others that 99-2000 had shorter coils, and thus, less lift in stock configuration.
