Suspension help

hi guys, i'm really new to this so forgive me for any mistakes. My interest may be very different to most here, but was wondering if anybody has any info, or idea about anyone who sells or may help me in lowering my vehicle.
I live in oz and out here i own a toyota hilux 4x4 sr5 2001 model. i bought it new and now doins some extra mods. what i need is a kit or some idea of hoe i can lower my factore IFS front approx 2 inches. my rear end is ok as it is only on leaf suspension.
i have found it hard to find anything, cos my car is very different to your toyotas out in the states. my car is very similar to the 4runner with the IFS front end. any info would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the board...there are some kits out there...

A great source of information on lowering the IFS would be http://www.customtacos.com

If you have no luck over there...I can see what I can find out for you

You sure you want to lower a 4X4?

They do make lowering springs for 4Runners. You could use them on the front. But, that will change the angle of your CV joints, and most likely ruin them over time.

Could you sell your 4X4 and get a 2WD? Do they make lowering kits for 2WD hilux's?

If worse comes to worse, you could always hack the springs, but that's just not safe. Keep researching, you will find something. I know the Japanese have some crazy lowered Hilux's.

thanks guys for your help, but the only problem i got is there a no springs in the front. i was told about getting lowered drop spindles, however nobody makes them for the yota.
regarding a 2wd, not my choice of car. you see i still want the drivetrain of a 4x4 and plus they just aren't the sam. i don't want my car to sit too low, but i want to be able to fit 22" rims comfortably

yeah the front are torsion bars. there is no springs at all, wic=sh there was though. you see the hardest part about finding parts is that the car doesn' have a direct match in the states. it is very different. but the model itself hasn't changed for many years here in oz. anyways, lets hope someone knows someone that knows something that can lower my vroom vroom

Can you crank down the torsion bars? That's what I did on my Mazda lowrider in conjunction with lower control arms, and got quite a nice drop from it.

I think your hilux is built on the same (or very similar) platform as our 86-95 trucks. The US Tacoma is a redesign done by ToyotaUSA. The overseas trucks aren't effected by this.
There's more info here on this page.
Look for kits using a 90-95 truck instead of the 96 and newer if the site is based in the USA
Hope this helps,
Todd
