shaky hood

I have a 91' runner and every time reach about 80 mph or drive in high winds my hood starts to shake. I am sure that it is nothing serious but it seems a little excessive. I took a look under the hood and it seems that the actual hinges are behind the firewall. Does anyone have any experience with this??

My '98 Tacoma does that a little bit too. I think it's just the way they are designed. It is a truck after all. I just ignore it.

Do you have a bug shield on it? That will definitely cause it.

Have you checked the hood adjustment grommets/screws at the front upper crossmember (by the headlights)? If not, make sure those are not too far down, they can cause excessive flutter too.

But I agree with what's been said, a bug shield causes more hood flutter. Mine is annoying, but only if I stare at it, and at 80+MPH, I should be looking elsewhere

This is what helped my hood at high speeds.

Thanks for the info. I do have a bug shield i am sure that that contributes. I adjusted those grommets for the hood as well, it helped. Thanks for the help.

Yes, mine never did it until I added it. Also, that shield reduces your MPG by at least 1 mpg.

I didn't lose 1 MPG when I put mine on at 83K miles. Where did you get that information?

I keep track of my MPG on charts, so I am going to have to go back and review that. I do remember a slight loss, but I thought that was from my 4.30 gears that I switched to at the same time.
