what's the deal with not being able to ship via air? My buddy has daily refridgerated canisters of fish headed to Puerto Rico. I bet I could get him to stuff some in there, but you would have to make worth his while.

 

i have a lazier approach that works well for me. everytime i do some work on my truck, i just pop off the brake booster vac line and spray a little carb cleaner in there while the truck is running. it'll sputter a little and belch some smoke and then all will be well. after a couple of months it quit belching smoke, so i assume everything got cleaned out, and now i do it only right before oil changes. i like this approach because you're not quickly dislodging all the crap at once like you do with the standard seafoam treatment. i'm not going to say that the seafoam method is bad, as there are quite a number of threads that say that it worked wonders for people, but i'm not in the mood to replace fouled plugs or a dirty o2 sensor, so i figure if i clean it out slowly, it won't cause (and hasn't caused) me any problems. granted, with this method, you don't see overnight drastic changes in performance like the standard seafoam method, but after 240K my 22re in my '89 still runs smooth, get's over 20mpg, and starts quick every cold winter morning, so i'm happy with the results.

 

they wont ship it air because its a petroleum product, highly flammable and probably easily comustible too, if it gets out on a plane, can you say plane explosion?

 

I can't remember where I got the stuff, but I have more than I need.

Marvel Mystery Oil.

 

BG or Granitize are good products.

 

How would one go about doing a treatment with the mystery oil?

Kinda figured I would use Marvel Mystery Oil for the Marvel Mystery Oil treatment however the real question is what would be the process and what hoses should be used in treating the engine with Marvel Mystery Oil to achieve similar resuits to the Seafoam treatment since there is no Seafoam available on this tiny Island in the Caribbean.

 

What is the procedure?

 

GM top engine cleaner also works very similar to Seafoam and a few Toyota Master mechanics I worked with swear by it.
IMHO it works just as well.

It will not be as effective as something designed specifically to remove carbon deposits but over time it should work well too.

"Just be careful when you buy it, because the MMO name is now used on many products. They ALSO make a MMO fule additive. That is NOT what I use. I put straight Marvel Mystery OIL in the gas tank. Ironic since most of the time we don't want to burn oil in our engine, yet that is what I am intentionally doing. From their website:

ADDED TO GASOLINE:

Here is a non-manufacture description of what happens:
Use the directions on the back for amount to put in the fuel per gallon of fuel (4 to 6 oz. per 10 gallons of fuel). MMO goes through the carburetor as a droplet, broken up like the fuel. When it enters the combustion chamber and the gasoline ignites, it is vaporized and soaks into the carbon buildup on cumbustion chamber walls, valve guides, around the valve stem, and on the spark plug. It soaks into the carbon and eventually loosens it up and it goes out the exhaust system."

Can be added to the gas as a solvent or to the oil as a lubricant but should not be simply poured in the intake as other cleaners are.

 

Should not be used directly in the intake...uh-oh!!!! Thanks thats exactly what I did!!!! I can smoke the tires on the 3.slow now also swapped the PCV Valve (1/2 Hour long needle nose)... I did it on the wife's Volvo too..man does that 5 cylinder get up and go....I guess I buy another bottle and dump it in the tank. I am stranded in the caribbean where there is no Seafoam so the MMO will have to do for now...

 

I just used Marvel Mystery Oil today on my 4cyl 97 runner. I shut off the engine, pulled the pcv hose and poured a little down it using a funnel. ( By a little, I mean 1/4 cup. Then I put the pcv hose back in and started her up. HOLY CRAP I made clouds. It was funny as hell

The clouds kept going for 5-7 mins, then I did it again. I kept the engine running at 3000rpm until all the smoke was gone. The engine is so quiet now. I poured 1/2 quart into the engine through the oil cap and will drive for another 500 miles. Then I'm gonna change the oil, clean the 02 sensors and MAF, and finally check the spark plugs.

From what I hear, MMO is a cheaper alternative to Seafoam. Seafoam is $5 for a quart at autozone, whereas MMO is only $2. Walmart carries MMO as well, and has the 32oz (2 qt) size for $3. Well worth it.

 

I'd recommend trying a couple cans of Mopar Combustion Chamber Cleaner, available at your local dodge dealer. I haven't used Seafoam, but back when I had my Eclipse we swore by this stuff for doing pretty much exactly the same thing as Seafoam.

I think all of the dealers have some sort of top end engine cleaner which should work very similarly to one another.
If you have any car dealers at all you should be able to get some.
