Just wanted to know if anyone has refreshed a TRD Supercharger, and
specifically replaced the front bearing.

My mechanic is trying to find someone in town (greater Phoenix, AZ area)
that can replace the bad bearing, and he is having trouble locating a
reputable shop that can do the work.

Otherwise, the S/C will have to go to California to be fixed...

PS I'm amazed that there are others in Phoenix that have TRD S/C'ed
4Runners - thought I was the only one! Is there a club in town where

Wish I could help out on the AZ thing, but I would be inclined to send mine to TRD if I needed that kind of work. I thought the bearing was permanent - what happened to yours?

 

The bearing is making a noise + there is some oil leakage.

It might be under warrantee - I'm checking this out. If so it'll
cost me at least a week (probably 2) before I get the Toy back...

Thats funny, I was just going to start a thread with this exact question. I need the part number off the bearing in the nose drive so I can replace mine. There is a specialty bearing store I live by that should have one. Is there any chance that your mechaninc could get that number for me, then I could help you find a replacement?

I know that you can order the whole nose drive from Magnuson ($330), and simply bolt it on yourself, but that seems like a lot to spend since its just to replace the one bearing.

 

Don't forget to get the replacement seal with it too.
If you leak oil it will go bad again very quickly.

 

Here'e an update, I emailed TRD directly and asked for a part number and pricing. $310 from Magnuson sounded just a little too steep for a bearing.

Thank you for your interest in TRD products. The part number for the grey supercharger nose cone replacement is 00602-17620-225 and retail on this part is $163, there is also a core charge for your old nose cone which is an additional $200, this core will be refunded when we get the old nose cone back.

So replacing the whole nose assembly for $163 plus $15 for oil isn't that bad. IMHO

 

I find it hard to believe that the bearing is not independently replaceable. Every bearing can be replaced, many just aren't in the realm of the average joe mechanic.

 

That was kind of my thought, I think that I'm going to try that route first. If it works out alright I bet that there will be a lot people that could benefit from it.

 

There are instructions on the TRD website how to replace the nose cone on the supercharger. It seems you can only view the PDF files and not print them. These install instuction PDF files didn't work before and now do.

$163 for a nose drive? Yup, that's a deal. I paid $300+ for mine from Magnusson. I'm sure the bearing can be replaced separately, but you have two problems. First is finding the bearing and second is getting the old one out and the new one in... which may take a press.

For $163, get the whole thing. It was very easy to do. For all of you garage mechanics, you may want to check my post about 6 point sockets. They are so much more secure than your regular Craftsman 20 pt or whatever sockets.
