Possible New Performance Mod

Check out this thread on the other forum

http://www.outdoorwire.com/ubb/ultim...;f=13;t=013812

Dr. Z posted it and is driving guys nuts over there because he is yet to post the writeup on an under $20 mod that will produce noticable gains in HP and torque (especially on non-supercharged engines). He claims it goes great with the deckplate mod and that noone has done it on here before. Well, the guys over there are getting pretty impatient. I emailed him about it so maybe I will hear back from him. Also gave him the link to this forum. Later guys.

I bet you that it is that Tornado thingger that you put into the airbox. If it is, it does not work at all. Don't even bother using it or wasting your $$$$. :fireman:

Yeah I have yet to see how a piece of metal twirling in your intake can increase hp.

That guy has "Intake Silencer Mod (New)" in his signature, so I did a search on google and here is what I came up with.

http://www.fordf150.net/howto/airintake.htm

Apparently the silencer is like a muffler on your air intake and is a restriction going into the throttle body. I guess removing it will increase air flow into the engine. He also has one of those throttle body spacers which are supposed to increase air velocity into the engine and spin the air but I have heard that they are a fluke. Any thoughts on this?

I think that the Tacoma does not have the intake silencer and that is why it is rated at 190 horse ather than 183 on the same 3.4L V-6. Toyota felt that the 4Runner target market would want it to be a little quieter.

Here are the two 1999 3.4L intake systems side by side. 4Runner to the left, Taco to the right. Part 15 on the 4runner diagram is the 4Runner resonator and part 3 on the right diagram is the Taco resonator. Taco Parts 3, 5 and 6 cost $75. Dont know if they fit the Runner.

96_1st_responder just noted that the 1996-1998 intake is similar to the Taco, so lets not get our hopes up yet...

Here is the 1996-1998 4Runner intake system, difference being the Resonator #2 (part 10)
