Painting myself and need a little advise. :)

Hi guys. I'm a newbie and just bought a 98 limited version. I really don't like the 2-tone on the 4runner so I decided to paint it myself. Main color is black and the limited flared kit is a dark grey. Has anyone ever done a flat black? If so do they have a pic they can post? For a rattle can is there any gloss black that will look factory? Sorry I meant "advice" on the title.

the best advice i can give you first off, PRACTICE.

It is vary do able to get a vary good looking paint job from rattle cans. find some old body parts to practice on first, such can be found at a junkyard. learn to pep those old parts and then teach your self how to lay and even coat. once you have all that down you can do flat black and if later put on some glossy clear. You can google auto body lessons on google vid., lots of good tip for you there.

There's a product I use to touch up my trailer hitch rust once a year. I think it's Krylon Semi-flat black, it gives a satin black finish and would look good on your flares.

As mentioned before, practice before you do the final painting.

Good luck and be sure to post up some before and after pics as I am curious to see the results!

x2 on what everyone else is saying about prep! That is the most important part. ppg paint is offering a "Hot Rod Black Kit" that is simi flat black, runs about 75 bucks. Have to use a spray gun though. Just finished a Harley in it, turned out nice. If ya have a source of air, lowes offers a Kobalt gun for around 100 bucks that will do a nice job.
