Why paint an engine?

Why paint an engine?

I'm thinking about painting my exhaust manifold do to rust.
My thinking is it will slow down or stop rust. I cleaned it up with a wire wheel. Is it of any use to paint parts other then just looking good?

I like my motors painted mostly for looks but it is easier for finding leaks. Other then that, not much reason for painting.
