Just ordered the GTech Performance Meter from EBay. For $46, you can't lose! I sound like a salesman...

 

I played with mine for a few days before I got bored with it. Now it gathers dust in a corner of the closet.

 

I'm just goning use it to measure performance gains with modifications. I've heard it reacts quite well to change. (Such as headers which will be purchased soon! )

 

Cool. Have fun with it. I hard a hard time getting consistant base lines with it. So much so that I gave up on trying to measure small gains from individual mods.

 

Oh. Anyone have an idea of what the weight of a 2WD 1986 Toyota Pickup might be? Is it about 2900lbs? Thanks.

 

just go to your local dump and weigh it on the scale. Mom's chevy 1ton 6.5LTD + 28' open trailer weighed in at 9200lbs....lol Also your local track should have a weight scale too.

 

Yeah, probably gona stop by the dump soon. I hope this GTech works well.

 

My friend had a G-tech in his 95 Jetta GLX. Stated 14.1 @ 98MPH. Went to the track a week later and he ran 15.4 @90MPH all day long.

If you keep an open mind, then I guess they are ok. He got bored with it too.

I bought one of those about 2 years ago off ebay....what a waste. It was so innacurate. It told me my car was making 245 horsepower...lol. I brought it to the track w/me and tested it against my time slip. The g-tech said I ran a 14.2 and the slip said I ran a 12.5...which was pretty consistent at the time. I haven't used the G-tech since.

 

There are a lot of variables and factors that can affect the GTech reading but, in theory, if you enter the correct weight, make sure the device is level and centered, and your in "normal" driving conditions, it should come pretty close (Probably after averaging a few runs). I've read a few reviews of guys setting it up as well as they can and receiving pretty good results.

Hmmm,I regualrly raced my Eclipse and the GTech meter usually showed only a two to three tenths diff quicker;my GTech read 13.0@106 and my slip showed 13.2@103 but AWD cars usually fooled the speed sensor but it was close enough for me to test out on backroads. I'll have to see what the Runner does and then run it at the Truckfest in the spring and see how accurate it reads.

 

Review: Well, I got the GTech Meter. Seems to be working properly. Got it centered and level. Entered in the weight of my truck of 2732 lbs. My highest Horsepower reading was 128, but that was after my tires slipped alittle while turning then gripped and thrust the truck forward. On average it's about 106. It's somewhat tricky to get a good reading, especially when trying to do it on public roads with traffic, speed limits, lights, etc. For the money, I guess it was a good deal, but doesn't work as consistantly as I hoped. Save your $46 to go to the track.

 

Maybe the new 2004 - 2005 G-Tech/PRO RR & SS work better?

 

It's probably somewhat more accurate just due to the advanced in technology since 94 but still, I think the dyno will continue to be our best option.

 

The new GTech is worlds beyond what the 1st gen was and actually can be hooked up to a pc to download results and does cost about $225.

There's also a few other companies that make their own versions too.

 

I'd like the option where you can hook it up to your computer. Do you know if you can plug it into your laptop while it's connected to your truck, as so you can get real time readings on your laptop while you drive? That'd be nice.
