Is the 2RZ exhaust manifold known for the same problem? Is 'tick tick tick' the main symptom to be aware of or can funny vibrations when letting off the gas and rough idle be other sure tell signs?

Yes, as the 2RZ and 3RZ are identical manifolds.

I sell a Mini-header conversion kit that uses all OEM parts. The link is in my signature line, or you can pm me for more details.

DC et al., I have a few questions I was hoping to get cleared up. But first, thanks to all those that provided great info to everyone, and especially DC.

1. Does the mini-header fit both 2rz and 3rz 1995.5-2001? or just 3 rz?

2. Should one replace the threaded studs in the head? or just the studs on the downpipe?

3. Is this mini-header what they installed on 2001-2004 3rz engines as an upgrade?

4. Does the mini-header install kit come with a heat shield that fits?

1. All 3RZ, and 95-2000 2RZ. Starting in 2001, the 2RZ went to a difference header design and it's not necessary for this mod.
2. Sometimes the head studs pull out, so it just depends what happens when you pull the nuts off the manifold
3. Yes, this is stock equipment for 2001-2004 3RZ
4. We offer 3 different kits, and one does include the correct heat shield

Amazing thread guys! Im putting a new manifold on my 98 2.7 L.

Does anyone know the torque specs for the manifold to header studs? The studs walked out on me... Im getting mixed reviews online, it sounds like people are going hand tight?

Thank you.

36 ft/lb

Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

You won't regret the upgrade. Did mine just before traveling from Maine to Washington. No issues.

Thanks Up&Down!

I was wondering more if the studs themselves need to be torqued into the block? My studs came out, and Im putting in new ones. If those are just hand tight, and the nuts on the studs are 36 ft/lbs then I'm good!

I was wondering if a non-CA emissions vehicle, currently registered in CA, would have any smog check problems if the stock cast iron manifold is replaced with this OEM header?

DC confirmed that he has never had an issue like this but I wanted to hear from others who have done this mod in CA if you've had an issues with SMOG at all. Thanks!

Is there a difference in design between CA and FED? I have a FED but dealer gives me CA part number. He also has a FED number but CA number is the part for me. Strange!!! 2000 2.7 Maybe it's because I'm in CA but that would mean they are the same exact design with two part numbers. Ughhh!!! Anyone have experience with this? Thanks in advance.

AFAIK the 2000 Cal emissions was the header style, while 2000 FED was the manifold style.

Look at your manifold...is it cast or tubular steel?

@DeathCougar I know you don’t sell these anymore, but can you shoot over the parts numbers for me. I’ve tried sourcing them out but wanted to ask in hopes you had them still so I know I’m ordering the right parts.
