I recently installed a Doug Thorley tri-y , purchased from Sport Truck Unlimited in Langley for a tad under 400.00 cnd. I was having exhaust stud problems and loosening header bolts, both have now been solved by retapping the full length exhaust stud(new) and adding Stage 8 locking fasteners.
No leaks, no loose studs and a header that sounds good, now I have to finish it with an air filter and lrger Dia. pipes and muffler.
Cheers.

Go with the LC Engineering header. It is cermaic coated and is bad ass for under $300. Go with a K & N intake the FIPK kit, a LC Engineering high flow cat, Flowmaster 2 1/4 exhaust split one pipe behind each wheel and you are set. LC Engineering big bore throttle body, and mild cam. And a Flex-Lite aluminum fan w/ billet spacer. This set up is very bad ass with awesome performance and tone (sound)!!!

Don't get a 2 1/2" exhaust on your 22RE. That is more suited to the 3vze 3.0 V6 with headers coming off of the crossover pipe after they join. Stick with 2 1/4" max - 2 1/8" as suggested sounds good.
I would consider Downey headers for your 22RE. Sport Trucks Unlimited in Langley (also North Shore offroad in North Van - same company - two different locations) carries them. Downey Headers for 3vze 3.0 V6 at Sport Trucks Unlimited are $500 for the chrome and $650 for ceramic (CDN funds). I am going to throw out a guess that the Downey headers for the 22RE are probably about $100-125 (CDN) cheaper on average in Chrome and Ceramic respectively to that of the V6 versions I quoted you. On the Downey website they are $331.94 USD for the Chrome, $378.62 USD for the Ceramics (http://www.downeyoff-road.com/Engine...s/Headers.html). When all is said and done with exchange, duty, shipping BS from the states, you're better off buying local or "semi" local (IE Sport Trucks).

So talk to North Shore Off-Road? I have seen stickers of them they be must a good place to do business with. I guess that Downey is on top of their game for Toyota's as i have checked out their web site and i am just going by what it says.

cutting off the muffler isnt illegal persay.... however if a cop wants to be a jerk you can get nailed for too much noise and modified exhuast... those are actual fines, not moving violations or fixit tickets.... i got one for modified exhaust and it was a fine, it was not correctalbe liek a fixit ticket...
