New guy with pic

Hello I'm new here but have been lurking for a while. I bought my 4Runner in October.

Here's another try:

Is there an easier way to show my pic than attaching it then linking to it? I don't feel like having them hosted somewhere...

Thanks for the welcome.

Come spring I plan on putting on my Yakima rack I had on my Explorer and I have vent shades for the windows too.

I was thinking about doing the diff breather mod, if nothing else just to be able to go through flooded streets that often happen around here without any worries.

Don't plan on much real serious off-roading, at least not untill it's closer to being payed off. I will do some though, mostly when I go on bike and canoe trips.

Main reason I bought it was because my 98 Exporer Sport was a POS. Paid a good premium for my Toyota, passing up newer domestics, but I have been unimpressed with domestic reliability over the last 12 years and finally got fed up.

For the record, the 98 Explorer has 320 (no I did not mistype that) service bulletins and 9 recalls according to Edmunds. I figure mine had about $5000 in repairs done over 4 years. Most under warranty, but that's still rediculous.

If I remember correctly my 4Runner has 6 service bulletins and 0 recalls.

That was the kind of math that made me buy one.

Just checked again and there must have been updates:

98 Explorer has 374 TSBs 9 recalls.

98 4Runner has 13 TSBs and 1 recalls.

00 4Runner has 21 TSBs and 0 recalls.

00 Explorer has 268 TSBs and 9 recalls.

Just wanted to get some accurate comparisons out here.

No comparison, really.

Welcome Phil. Just focus on all the trouble free miles you'll get from your 4Runner.... it helps lessen the pain of the 12 years of being a Ford driver. A co-worker bought an 02 Exploder for his wife. I tore him up pretty good w/ all the "dont you love your family" lines he could stand. (and beyond I'm sure) About 2 weeks back he came clean, admitted it was a POS. It's been in the shop 7 times... not counting the time they got rear-ended by a guy in a Nissan Maxima. Over 6k in damage!

Phil,

Welcome and greeting from the land of sunshine, smog, illegal immigrants, fires, riots, occassional flash floods and the Gover-nator!

Re diff breather extension, you'll want the Type R rear diff breather. Contact Mertztr (Tom) as his territory has moved from CA to IA and the midwest.

Please post any questions you have back here. I'm more than happy to help you.

Also, check out my webpage: http://www.4runners.org I have a 98 but many of these mods should apply to your 99.

Bob
