Need some TACO info- towing, 2.7, ect
Due to having a new house i am thinking of getting rid of my 4runner. I have an offer to trade for a 1997 Tacoma 4x4 (new 2.7 and 5 speed). The motor has about 3000 miles on it. Its a good truck and in great shape. It would be nice to get out of my monthly payment. (3 year loan) A few questions.
I have a 17 ft bass tracker boat. Will it tow it with out issue? My 4runner does a good job with it but i am a little worried about the smaller truck. The boat weighs around 1700 pounds. I am sure it will pull it but what about stopping it? Any info would be great!!!! Thanks
2. Will a 4wheeler fit in the bed?

Yeah that's what I do. I put it in 4-low and don't lock the front hubs. I would think you won't have problems towing it. Just allow more time and distance for stopping and you should be fine. You might have to downshift on bigger hills.

as far as the quad goes, are you worried about length or width? here is my 96std cab with a bike in the back.
not sure the width between wheel wells, but you should be fine. the 2.7 has 150 hp and 160 ft/lb of torque. a little more powerful than the 22re. i think you'll be ok.

You should be alright towing the boat and I believe the quad should just barely fit. All of my buddies are huge in to Motocross and one has a 98 Taco and he's stuck 3 bikes in the back of his rig. The 2.7 is an awesome motor, bullet proof I say. I have a 96 Runner with the 2.7, header and full exhaust and MSD 6A, along with a K&N drop in filter. I'd highly recommend the MSD for low end power. As far as braking power I recently upgraded to drilled and slotted front rotors set up with Hawk Ceramic pads. I haven't messed with the rear cause I don't do enough towing to need too much braking power but there are conversion kits out for disc in the rear, however they are pretty spendy. I have had great luck with lcengineering.com they have a great select and great knowledge base, they've been around racing for a long time. Another good site to check out is Downeyoff-road.com they carry some pretty sweet offroad and performance products. Good luck with it!

I didn't see your 2nd question the first time I posted. My KFX 400 sport quad fits in my truck (6 foot bed) and I can still close the tailgate, so I would assume it would fit in yours.
Here's mine:
