More questions on 2WD lift for 99 runner

I've done research and even asked on these boards and am not getting what I need. I know that there are not a ton of lifts for a 2WD but I spent some time at Performance Products this weekend and here are the results:

1. 1" inch PP springs with 4WD bilsteins - confirmed that this will work on my '99;
2. Coilovers (SAW and Ravtek) - available for 2WD

My question is why do people only put coilovers in the front and use springs and shocks in the rear. This was a pretty consistent setup on the boards. I'm really interested in the coilovers all around and they're not much more in price than option #1 above. They will give me anywhere from no lift to 2.5 inches.

Thoughts.

BTW, I also looked into the EMUs and the Tundra coils as a potential setup and ended up with the two options above.

I think the stock 4wd spring will lift a 2wd too... Just a thought (plus I've got a set)

yes the 4wd springs fit....

the pp springs are awesome however i have heard there is like a 3 month lagtime on them!

Actually, PP has a ton of these in stock. At least that was Saturday.

Still, why do others not use the coilovers all around vs. just the fronts?

i dont think its possible to use coilovers in the rear

if you look at your front suspension, the shock is inside the coil spring, which is what a coilover is, shock and coil spring in one. in the rear, the shocks and springs are not mounted the same way, but seperately.

Lee, thanks for answering my dumb question. Now I understand why coilovers only go in the fronts. Now, I also realize that coilovers do cost big bucks b/c I was comparing the cost of 4 springs and shocks to only one set of coilovers.

I'll have to rethink my options.

As a newb, still trying to get my hands around all the terminology. Use to be into high-performance Honda stuff and was very familiar with coilover technology and name brand stuff such as Bilsteins. I've read a ton on the OME setups, including those with the Tundra springs but still trying to stick with the familiar. At the end of the day, I want to go with springs, shocks and coilovers designed specifically for my truck.

I lifted my 2wd once upon a time and used the OME setup on all fours. If I were you, I would get the Tundra coil-overs up front and Downey's in the rear. A few people have put A LOT of time and A LOT of money into finding out what works best. This setup seems to be the newest and most popular. I know that Schaeffer (sschaeffer3) went through probably every setup available and more than likely will give you his opinion for free, I doubt any arm twisting is necessary. I also know that Andy (bamachem) went through at least a few and has ended up with the Tundra/Downey combo. Spacers will get you more clearance for cheap, but the ride and flex wont be the best you could get. Then again, you do have 2wd so it might not matter. Buy the best you can afford, that way you wont have to do it all over again 6 months later.
