Modifying Exhaust Header

A couple of weeks ago I ordered a Pacesetter header from Summit and it came today. The header has round holes for the older style head despite coming with documentation for a 1990-1995 and coming with a gasket with pear shaped holes in them. There is a hole right where the top of the pair is (bolt hole? in the header). Would it cause a noticeable change in performance if I simlpy welded over this hole?

I emailed summit about the issue and they emailed me (an obviusly standard message) about sending back the item prepaid. Great, first I pay lots of money to have it shipped here, pay customs, and have to ship it back. Not only that, but I have to wait for more parts to come in so my downtime is longer. Not really a good solution. Fixing the damn thing would be better for me.

I was thinking about just blocking the whole and perhaps grinding out a bit of the metal to make the whole slightly better shaped. Would this work and be a good solution?

I know it sucks, but if it was me I would send them back for the right ones.

Wonder if you need the block-off plates like I have on my '85:

There are two small holes below each end of the plate.

Roger,

that's exactly what I need now that I go look at it. However, now that I look even closer, there was a copper pipe that went across and took the place of the block of plates.

Thanks all. I was pretty frusterated and wasn't thinking all that well.

You probably have the later style external EGR plumbing that fits over those plates. I have the earlier style that runs the exhaust gas back inside the head.

i just got the same header installed today and did you have a really annoying sound coming from the header before you put those bolts in the middle of the one-two pipes and three-four pipes? because my truck is really annoying right now. if that is all i need to do in order to make it good then i will be very glad
