I'm finally making the change over to Synthetic on my S/C'd 3rd gen, but I'm kinda confused as to which I should go for as far as AMSOIL goes. The only difference I see between the two is, one has a longer interval than the other. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

The European formula is designed specifically for turbocharged motors, thats what I use. OOPS sorry just realized you said supercharged not turboed. I would think that you would still want the European formula for that but call Amsoil, they are good about recommendations. Also ask about engine cleaner. I dont see it listed on that site, but they use to have a cleaner that you put in your oil before changing from conventional oil to Amsoil. Also, when you run for extended drain intervals remember to still change the filter every 5k miles.

I'd go with the OE 5W-30, from what I read, I'd rather change my oil more frequently then 25,000 miles or 1 year. That's just me, peace of mind. Besides if I bought the signature series I'd still change it more often then 25,000 miles lol!. You will like the stuff either way you go.

 

according to the website, air-induction systems are exempted from the extended drain intervals. Superchargers and turbochargers are air induction systems and since you have an SC, then you have to use the OE recommendations for drain intervals.

AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil is recommended for extended drain intervals in unmodified(1), mechanically sound(2) gasoline-fueled vehicles as follows:

• Normal Service(3) – Up to 25,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.
• Severe Service(4) – Up to 15,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.
• In all non-gasoline-fueled vehicle applications, extend the oil change interval according to oil analysis or follow the OEM* drain interval.

*OEM – Original Equipment Manufacturer

(1) Engines operating under modified conditions (non-stock) are excluded from extended drain recommendations. Examples include the use of performance computer chips; non-OEM approved exhaust, fuel or air induction systems; and the use of fuels other than those recommended for normal operation by the manufacturer.

(2) Mechanically sound engines are in good working condition and do not, for example, leak or consume excessive amounts of oil, are not worn out, do not overheat, do not leak antifreeze and have properly working emissions control systems. AMSOIL recommends repairing malfunctioning engines prior to the installation of AMSOIL synthetic oils.

(3) Personal vehicles frequently traveling greater than 10 miles (16 km) at a time and not operating under severe service.

(4) Turbo/supercharged engines, commercial or fleet vehicles, excessive idling, vehicles with more than 100,000 miles without prior continuous use of AMSOIL motor oil, daily short-trip driving less than 10 miles (16 km), frequent towing, plowing, hauling or dusty condition driving.

 

I use The 10w40 in my 93 3.0 4runner. No problems.

 

I always get the 0w-30 signature series for my truck and it runs great. You will still want to change the oil every ~5k miles though, I have never trusted the long term oil changes.

 

I use the signature series in my yotas all amsoil is good and compared to other oils the price is good.

 

I have been running Amsoil 0W-30 Signature Series for about 140,000 miles now (previous owner ran it too), it's an excellent choice IMO. I change every 7,500-10,000 depending on how many miles I go in a year, but usually I hit a year before 15,000 miles...

Also use the Amsoil oil filter, but get the bigger one for a '95 Taurus with the 3.0 V6 (part number EAO34-EA). It's the same diameter and screws right on, but has about 50% more media because its a longer can.

Also, look long and hard at the Torque-Drive ATF (part number ATD1G-EA). It's treated my transmission very well over a lot of hard miles, about 140,000 have been supercharged too.

 

Agreed, 0W-30 is what I'm running, switched to Amsoil at 50K miles with oil changes every 10K. I only run it this long because I have a servicable oil filter which gets cleand every 2K miles.

 

0W-30 is what you want, I'm running their 5w-30 only because I could not find any 0w30 last time I did oil.

I also run a bit of lucas hd oil stabilizer.

I don't think I could ever go 25k or even 15k without an oil change, I would get paranoid and want to change it. Longest I ever went was 6400k on synthetic.

 

How are you guys buying your Amsoil products? Are you just ordering online or becoming a distributor or what? Thanks

 

Hey Brian, so is that better than the Multi-Vehicle ATF?

 

I signed up for the "preferred customer" program, like $20 a year but 1 oil change pays for that in the discounts so worth it long term to me.

 

I signed up for the program also,they have a distribution wharehouse in Richmond,so I get the discount and no shipping.They make a 10w40 for flat tappet cams that I use in my 3.0 Its the only oil that keeps a high oil pressure on the gauge.

 

Based on their descriptions it's for "extreme" applications such as diesel engine AT's and the like. Seems like a good fit for a supercharged one too, and it's done fine for me.
