lockers or SAS??

Yea that was a stupid question just wondering if I should abandon the IFS. I will be be doing some wheeling but just wondering if a locker front and back would be good enough for the job.

Money not an issue? Both, duh. My $0.02 is that would be lockers. Just adding a rear locker to your truck with good spotting and a level head will get you up most trails. I have two lockers in my IFS truck and it got up Missouri Gulch with the help of a really good spotter (and I just have the stock xfer, no Marlin).

If money was no object I would get a long travel IFS setup and a front ARB. So you see, a solid axle is not the only option, and it is BY FAR the most extreme overall (since you won't ever be able to go back to stock, and you resale value will go into the toilet.) It all depends on what you want to do, and more importantly HOW you do it.
I'm willing to bet that you won't be doing hard enough wheeling to necessitate a solid axle, based on how you are bringing this up. That, and two lockers installed would only cost around $1000, where as a SAS worth having would be $3-4k.
Yet another thread where someone thinks they need a SAS for regular off-roading.

what kinda elocker do you have for the front guapo83? im guessing you have an arb since theres no elocker available for the 7.5" IFS diff...
anyway, to answer the OP's question, if you need to ask if you need a solid axle up front, you dont need one. lockers front and back will get you further than open solid axles ever will...

Just get a rear locker, and upgrade as needed. I'll bet you will be fine with semi-stock for a good while.

If money was no problem, I'd have a Full Size 4 door tundra, a 16' trailer, and a buggy on the trailer. The 4Runner would be nice and shinny, and my daily driver.

What kind of wheeling do you plan to do? A stock truck will go a lot of places.
A stock truck with gears and lockers in both ends will go a lot more places....
I only have added a rear locker to my stock rig and I am amazed how little I use 4wd now when things are dry. Kinda wish it wasn't a desert here and I could test it out in snow/mud..

What size tires do you plan to run? The SAS is as much for strength as it is for the properties of the solid axle.
IMO if you want a wheeling rig and can afford to sacrifice mileage, go buy a locked fzj80 landcruiser. Better platform to start with IMO. You should be able to trade vehicles and come out about even for comparable year/mileage. Your going to sacrifice the mileage anyway, so you might as well start with something closer to what you want. They can be had from the factory with lockers and solid coil sprung axles. It's pretty cheap to get to 37's and you shouldn't have much worry about durability.
good luck

Ducaria,
You live in Ft. Collins - why not ride along on some of the harder runs with us to understand what the benifits of each is? (You can ride wiith Flygenstein - and he'll give you a headfull) LOL
But seriously - do plan to join us on some runs - it will help you decide. And as Axle Ike has said. (Paraphrase) "If you like, and you want it, then get it. It doesn't matter what the rest of the web wheelers think"
