It's just about PURRR-fect, now.

I had the Pacesetter resonator added to my exhaust today and it really tames the Dynomax. Much better now - just a nice, gentle rumble.

More pics of the installation on the page in my sig.

And it really tames down the resonance? I would love to hear a sound byte, can you record one for us?

Looking very good Chuck.
Thanx.

I can't think of a way to record one without hauling a computer out to the garage. How has everyone else recorded theirs?

Looks good Chuck. I am glad you are happy with the set-up. I really like my resonance. I think that it sounds the best, but every person has his/her own tastes! Nice looking though! :fireman:

You may have convinced me to cut my pipe and add one of these. It doesn't look much longer then the stock pipe. I was worried it would stick way out the side of the rig. I've seen some runners with chrome add on exhaust tips that stick way out the side, can you say UGLY!
There was probably 8 inches cut off the pipe and about 6-10 inches cut off the tip before he welded them together.

I didn't think to do it before, but I'll take a couple of pics of the piece that was cut off.

Get a tape recorder, tape it, then if you have a line in on your sound card plug it into line in and record it. That was really short and there is a lil more to it than that but should get the picture.

Maybe I'll try it if I can find a tape recorder that works around here.

If you REALLY like the way it sounds now, without a tip, I wouldn't add one. It changes the sound a lot more than I was lead to believe it would. It's fine for me, but not for someone who likes the stock Dynomax.

If my truck looked anything other than stock on the outside, I'd have probably left the exhaust with just the Dyno. But, with the truck looking so benign on the outside, it seemed like the exhaust sound was just a teeny bopper posing and it didn't fit this ol' fart. I'm better off with the Monza. A much less "in your face" sound.

I'd always rather make an understatement than an overstatement.

It looks about the same as they must have cut down the Monza?

It also looks like when they cut the Monza down they left a bit of the 2 1/4 pipe (maybe 1 or 2 inches) and tucked it inside the stock pipe and welded?

It also looks like they may have stretched out the stock pipe to fit the Monza inside for the connection and Weld?

Very cool deal Chuck, you may have convinced me, although the resonance didn't bother me but I like the looks. I'd leave the pipe painted yello if you could and try and wipe it out occasionally. If you could see my 2001 stock tail pipe you would be amazed, I'm anal remember, I wash and wax it every time I was and or wax the rig. I've used steel wool 0000 to shine it up a couple of times.

Thanks for the info Chuck
You're right on all of your statements. The only problem may be with keeping the yellow. It seems to be burning, not sure how far it's going to go.

Here's the piece that was removed from the tailpipe.

No joy. My tape recorder is so old the motor noise records louder than the Runner's engine. Maybe I'll come up with something.

One thing I've noticed is that the tip adds a "whooshing" noise to heavy acceleration. I hope it settles down a bit when deposits start accumulating in it to soften some of the sharp edges.

Damn Phil. You cherry out your stock tail pipe? Almost as bad as me. I have the TRD clone tip (stainless steel) and I clean & polish the inside of the tip. It's always clean and shiney like the day it left the shop 2 years ago... hows that for anal? I like the yellow tip too. Maybe a weekly wipe with a cleaner/degreaser and wax will prolong the color.

Jason B and I were talking some time ago about exhaust, and he told me a trick he did to his big ass chrome tips when he had them installed. He had the guy drill a small 1/4" (or maybe 1/8"?) hole on the bottom of the tip right after it attatches to the pipe. That allows all of the pollutants and tarnishing smoke to exit first, hence saving your nice looking tip. Maybe you could look into that and save yourself some time and elbow grease.

Hey Vince. Good tip ... I have the 'rolled edge' lip on my SS tip and I have a tiny 1/8" hole hidden under the bottom edge. What this hole does is let the wet (warmup) soot drain so you don't get the tailpipe 'drool' black line on the botton lip. I did'nt notice mine until I crawled under, unfortunately, the welder did'nt make the hole dead center, so I still wipe the drool off when I clean.
