immobilizer? '02 Runner starts w/ "plain" key

Hi all. My recently purchased a used '02 4Runner only came with 2 plain silver (copy?) keys. In other words, it doesn't have the large black base (where I assume the chip would be). The keys start the truck fine. I guess this means I don't have the immobilizer or whomever owned it or a dealership bypassed/removed/hacked the system? I also didn't get a control for keyless entry (assuming it came on the SR5). An alarm installer told me that sometimes dealerships/wholesalers will bypass the system if they did not get (or lose) the "main" key. I'm not sure. All I know is I'm using the plain silver key to unlock and start/drive.
Any ideas? I'm thinking I'll buy an alarm, that way I'll have the keyless entry feature and an alarm.
I thought all these had the immobilizer.

I went to Home Depot to have an extra key made for my 01 Runner and it works just like the factory one. I think it was an option.

Thanks lee and ec.
Any ideas on the keyless entry? Was it standard or option on the SR5? What do you have?

It probably didn't come with the system.

A dealership will not bypass the immoblizer system, it'd be too much work. Cutting a key takes 2 minutes and programming takes about 15-30 minutes. At work we are always making keys for the sales people since they tend to loose them often. The money just comes out of the salesmans pockets. Plus I have no idea how you'd bypass the system unless you'd want to spend $2000 on a new wiring harness.

The factory setup will run you about $400 installed... any aftermarket system will be near the same I believe.

Nope. Not even all the '05 rigs come with them. A simple check with any dealership can tell you what came stock with the rig. I run VIN numbers all day long to check for rigs with or without the immoblizer system when making keys for the sales department.

Thanks for the input! Toyofast- I thought the same thing when the guy said they reprogram for no chip. It sounded too intensive. Thanks again.
Lee- I'll also search for programming keyless.

From what I understand, the Imobilizer was standard on all 99-up Limiteds, and an option on all others. My sisters 01 SR5 doesn't have imobilizer, but does have keyless. Wish I didn't have that stupid system...costs too much for a spare!!

My 01 SR5 has the keyless. I bought a new fob thing off ebay but they sent me the wrong directions to program it. I sat in the driveway for about 45min trying to do it before I read the top of the directions that were for a camery. It is the correct unit w/rear window button. So I have not programed it yet.

I called Toyota...

Update- I called Toyota and also looked up my 2002 specs here:http://www.toyota.com/html/tcuv/broc...02_4runner.pdf .
It turns out the Limiteds had the immobilizer and it doesn't list it as an option for SR5s. Keyless entry was standard on all. I ordered a remote from "thepartsyouneed.com" ($34.99 after shipping) as others here have done. I checked Ebay, no big savings and questionable return policies.

from what I recall, big is correct... all 99 and up limited's came with the immobilizer. The eBay immobilizer keys work fine btw... I believe I purchased mine from a seller keysandlocks or something similar to that.
