I have a '99 LTD w/ Oak interior, and I have a couple small cracks in the dashboard on the passenger side just below the airbag. I was wondering if there was some sort of repair kit so I can prevent them from getting worse.

Any ideas????

 

 

Hmmm.. is it in the wood trim or the plastic? If it is in the plastic you can use pretty much any material that will mold into the crack but you would have to repaint the plastic. You might be able to find a kit or some plastic of the same color you could some how melt and push in... might just be easier to get a whole new dash... Just giving you some ideas man

 

I'll take any advice. Thanks! Its actually in the "softer" plastic part of the dash, I don't know if its vinyl or what. I hope I cn do it cheaper than a whole new dash, but iff it keeps spreading I might be SOL.

 

You can get a cover for it, but I hate those.

Other option... Super Glue.

 

if you are just worried about it spreading, and arent too worried about how it looks, just go to home depot, but some of their 'plastic fusion' epoxy or something along those lines, squirt it out, mix it up, shove it in the crack (uh oh this is sounding dirty) and then wipe away any excess. You may be able to find some that dry clear or whatnot. Just a thought.

 

Visit the biggest car dealer near you. Any brand. Ask the used car sales manager who he uses to re-furbish the dashes in his used cars. They're repaired on site by a 'seamless vinyl repair guy'.

 

I second that. The stupid as.... body shop that messed everything up, I mean fixed my rig after my stereo was ripped out also messed up my dash and they had it fixed by the traveling vinyl repair guy. He matches the color and uses some sort of texture tape or something. Mine looks almost as good as new. No idea on cost though, they wouldn't admit they took the huge chunck out, but they fixed it for free

lol I had 2 cracks on my dash, pretty bad ones. Then again, owning an 89 I wasn't surprised. I almost bought the rug, but then TOR hooked me up with a new dash! Paid a pretty penny but.....

i know this does nothing to help you, but i wanted to share!!

 

Dash mat isn't an option, I just don't like them, and I'm pretty sure that this is in a spot that wouldn't get covered anyways. I'm going to try the dealership route and see if I can find some leads.

Thanks Billf6531!! I did exactly that and got it fixed today for $55, looks as good as new! I never could've hoped that it would turn out that well.

 

I thought I would bring this back up. I have a pretty big crack in my dash now and I called around to the car dealers and they gave me some numbers. The first guy I talked to said he doesn't like fixing the cracks anymore because the problem is a dried out dashboard so once you fix that crack another one will appear right next to it. I wasn't satisfied so I called around and asked other places and they wouldn't do it for less than $130. How did you get yours fixed for $55? Any opinions? Thanks
