I went and cleaned the Idle Air Control today, located underneath the throttle body. Went for a test drive and it seemed back to normal. It had gotten to the point that I would stall out at stop lights, and even during cold starts. :/

So I took some of the hoses off the unit, and it spewed a good 1/4 cup of liquid. It resembled brake fluid. Anyone have a clue on what it could have been?

Just curious but, where exactly is the idle air control because my 4runner will stall randomly sometimes?

 

Right underneath the throttle body. (aka Butterfly valve).. Follow the air box hose into the engine ... thats the throttle body. You take that out, and right below there is a sensor and another chamber that tends to get gunked up.

Shouldnt that have been coolant? Brake Fluid ?-? in color only I guess?

 

Donno, it I think was oil.

 

It was probably just built-up oil residue from a normally functioning PCV system.

Thanks for posting up this solution, I had my Runner stall once in the middle of rush hour on an uphill slope. So maybe I should go ahead a clean this out.

But I was wondering, should the IAC have a bit of oil as lubrication?

And, did you replace all the o-ring/gaskets?
