That is correct, I have 285/75 BFG ATs with 4.88s and I am still getting roughly 300 miles to a tank.

Too bad my runner gets only about 11 miles to the gallon... like 150 miles to the tank, it sucks. Do these runners just have crappy gas milage, or does mine have a problem?
I am only running 31'' tires too... Anyone knpow how to fix this? Headers? Exhaust? What really helps?

It's not possiable to figure your gas milage by looking at the gage, Lol. That is very unreliable and means nothing . Mine can read empty and I can still drive 90 miles before the gas light comes on then I have another 10 miles before it will run out.
You need to figure your gas comsumption this way..
Write the millage on your truck and then fill up your gas tank and write down how many gallons it took to fill it. Drive it until you need to fill it again. When you fill up again subtract the miles you have now from the miles you had when you filled up and then subtract the gallons it took you to fill up from the gallons you put in at the start of your test. This will tell you how many miles you are getting per gallon.

I was wondering the same thing about mine. I get 12-13 mpg for general city driving. I just got my injectors cleaned / serviced and waiting and I hoping to see an improvement (even if it's a small one).

with 35's, S/C, 4.88's i average about 120 for half tank, then 65-80 until the light goes on, I average 12-14 overall

my gauge makes a huge drop alittle past half and agian at 1/4 tank. but ive never run out so its a moot point to me.
You and Beartracker are both correct. That is the only "accurate" way to figure fuel mileage. I use my debit card to fill up every time. By getting a receipt, I don't have to write down the gallons purchased, and it gives me something to write the mileage on, along with a nice permanent record showing where I purchased the fuel. As was said before, miles driven since last fill-up, divided by the gallons of fuel used since last fill-up, equals the exact fuel mileage, provided the speedometer/odometer are correct.

just drove from OK to VA, 1100 miles + each way. got about 23.5 out there, 21 back. running 32"s on stock 4.11 gears. figured miles with gps, and gallons from the pump. That was with the cruise set at spped limit, or limit +2-3, 68 on average. With the 4cyl, 5spd i was ok untill WV, had to downshift for some of those hills.

Depends on what you consider "driving like a Grandma". I have a 75 mile commute everyday for work and that is on country roads. I average ~60 mph but that can turn into stop and go traffic when I get behind a convoy from Fort Bragg. I just don't drive with the S/C constantly screaming. The difference in our tire sizes might have something to do with it.

Lance- I know the tires are a lot of it, but even when i first got the 4runner, and had stock tires on it, i still could only get 260 or so..... it just amazes me that you've got 285's, bumpers, S/C, etc... and you're getting that great of gas mileage!

Tulsa, Careful what you say about West Virginia,Lol. I drive these mountains everyday. No matter where I go I have to go straight up and straight back down. My 2.7 has no problem with that and I still get 18-19 on average around home.

Another thing that some of you guy's with the big tires have to think about is your odomiter will give you a false ready for miles and speed . Figure out yourmtrue speed by stop watch from mile marker on the highway or find a cop who is set up with a radar and ask him to clock you. Hold your speed at the limit and then ask him what he got. I have done this with another truck of mine several times and most cops are happy to do it as long as it's done in a safe spot and not on the freeway or expressway.
