I just picked up my Runner from the shop with my new ARB, I got the Taco version cus research on here directed me in that direction cus it fit much tighter than the 4runner version. I have a 2in 4crawler BL and used the bumper adapters to raise my stock bumper with the body for that clean flush look. When i got to the shop, I found the gaps i was trying to avoid. The ARB mounts use the the front of the frame instead of the sides and I was curious if someone here knew the thread to direct me to modify this imperfection?? I have to run to work so I'm hoping someone will have nice news for when i get off.

Can't help you with that but I can tell you the little rubber bumpers on the front of the ARB are upside down.

 

Yeah that's awesome too! I seriously just threw the parts in the rig, slapped on a plate and rallyed to work. I'm taking a closer look tomorrow.

So far i've found that the Prado bar doesn't give you gap and that Steve at SS can fab up adjusted modifications for body lifts, but only for those with TJM and who purchased through him.

Someone's gotta know something....I'm rubbing pretty bad now!

 

Smaller tires and lose the body lift and gain the MPG back. I win!

 

I think you may need to get some brackets fabbed at a metal shop.

Your best bet would probably to take it somewhere and have some one fab up some different mounts and trim the wings. That will beef up the mounts as well if you ever plan on adding a winch. You could do the lattice mod... going to be a bit hard with green but maybe black would work? Here is my old 98 with the lattice job done...

 

You know, in my time of stress..that's actually crossed my mind--too funny!

Just found out you can cut the mounts and move everything up 2inches and tack weld it back on. I'll post pics after this weekend.

That's pretty much what was done to my ARB with a 3" body lift on my p/u. I want to do a SAS now so I will have to remove the 3" BL and cut the bumper again to put it back to where it was.

 

I hope you use more than just a tack weld LOL.

 

That is exactly what I did on my 2002 Tacoma but I had a 3" body lift. I was able to notch the mounts and move the bumper up 3". I retained 4 of the 6 mounts that hold the ARB to the brackets and then laid some heavy welds down. It still wasn't as strong as before but it held up to some heavy winching. Be sure to lay down some good solid welds and not tacks. In the pic you can see where the brackets hang beneath the bumper. I didn't move the brackets at all. They still mounted to the frame at the same exact point.

 

haha yeah don't forget the part about finishing your welds, pretty sure that's in the message though

km runner, if you're winching and wheeling in that you should move your bumper down about a half inch, being flush up with the body is just asking for trouble

 

Yeah I know..the tack weld is just to hold it in place to lay heavier welds, but you know how you can miss stuff when you're too close to the project, Lol!! Thank goodnes for great tips!

It's done now, just letting it cool off and then I'm gonna prime and paint over the welds so it doesn't rust.

I'll post pics when i get it on tomorrow morning!

 

X2, at least get a finger in there so you don't crinkle your fender if you hit something.

 

Hence the importance of laying down some good solid welds. I had about a 1/2" gap in between the bumper and body when I first installed it. After some heavy winching, it tilted the bumper up towards the body. No worries, it has been fixed since then and I no longer have the truck.

 

Still, you guys are dicks. I want an ARB.

 

OK, I really wanna know where you got those rims and whether I could fit them in a 88 4runner.

 

Same bolt pattern as stock s5 alloys...sold my 285 Toyos with my wheels to a guy from BC and the bolted right on, he had an 88!! MOTO METALS from Wheel PROs brochure, but my Schwab boys hooked it up!
