I used new factory exhaust manifold gaskets with my Edelbrocks.

I didn't because the port size of the header flange was no where close to matching the size of the stock gasket. The stock copper-layered gasket was much larger. Glad it worked for you but I wasn't chancing it.

Also a fan of the TRD stuff--so obvious on my signature... -- Heard many negative feedbacks on them but never had any problems with mine...Over 35k on the headers and still running smooth...great prices on E-bay brand new from actual dealerships with free shipping... here's a sample link...

Kevin-

They are on my old computer. I will have to transfer them via my jump drive. Keep reminding me! I swear I will get them for you.

I have a friend who has a 2003 TAcoma TRD 4x4 ext'd cab 5 speed manual. He's interested in a set of headers to improve performance. I was thinking Downey and he doesn't want to break the bank too too much, but on the downey website it says that their 3.4 headers fit all 4runners but do not fit any vehicle with a column shift? It also only lists the headers for 95-02 models on their website. Would these work, in your opinion, on an '03 Tacoma?

They should fit fine on a stick, thats only a possible issue for automaticsm and I've never seen a column shift toyota, but maybe they exist (tundra's/T100's?)

The problem with the 5 speed header-equipped rigs is the release/engagement fork. Currently, mine rubs the header flange on the driver side. I will bet a buffalo nickel that Downey did not compensate enough for this. I should have ground my shift fork down before I installed the drivers side header. My bad!

No to bring back an old thread but with the edelbrocks it says on the website that you have to take them to a muffler shop and have some welding done, is this true?

I'm looking at part number 6607

Yes that's true. A flange needs to be welded on.

I wouldnt bother for the money you'll spend vs. the gain. If I was going to do it I would use JBA headers.

EDIT: Looks like JBA on has Tacoma headers, so I would go TRD second choice.

How much power gain do you get with a NA 4runner when adding headers? Is it worth the cost/labor? I noticed that someone said that they only had a slight increase in fuel mileage. What have people noticed their increase is?

From what I've read and I did a bunch of research about six months ago, the cost is not worth it. It will cost you at least $300 for headers (and more likely close to $500) plus install. From others, the install is a true PITA. It just didn't make sense to drop close to $1k on headers for a NA 4runner.

What Edwin says.

I ran headers on a N/A 3.4L for about a year. It's simply not worth it.
