I'll be installing the Downey's in a couple of weeks.

They are available at truckperformance.com.

Overall their prices are right and their customer services see good.

Even though we have different motors (unless you have a 3.4 swap) let us know how the install goes. I want details man!

Quality of the kit
Any extra parts you needed to get

One concern about the Downeys are the ceramic coating and how good it is. Are they coated inside, outside or both? I've heard pros and cons about Downeys and TRDs. The only reason I was leaning towards the TRDs was because eveything I have on my Runner is TRD ie: s/c, exhaust etc.

Paul-

86 the TRD header idea from my friend. Frickin Tempe Toyota wants $925 after the discount. Give me a break.

Yeah, those are good questions about the Downey's. Let me say this, I dont think anyone is going to care that you have Downey's instead of TRD's after you smoke them in your Runner. And, if you show your Runner (not sure if you do or not), no one will be able to tell what type of headers you have, they will just think its cool that you have them in the first place, and saved $500 in the process (with the Downey's)

My .02

Sounds like a PHX wrench-a-thon is on the horizon.

Very true.....maybe we can do the install on both Runners at the same time...

We could start with yours so if there are any kinks they can be worked out...lol

I had a feeling you would say that.

Actually, I might be willing to do that considering my wife and I carpool, and the Runner can sit if needed. Not sure what your driving situation is...

I will PM you if I get close to buying these bad boys. Knowing my timing, it will be the middle of summer when I can get them.

I really like my modified Edelbrocks. Can't beat the price. Took care of the ports by welding them on the outside and port matching them. Had them coated by HPC and then wrapped them. I still need to dyno (I've been sick and out of work).

I have the Edelbrocks and they are great. I noticed an increase in throttle response "off the line" and on the highway. However, you will have to treat them with either a coating or a wrap. They do generate a lot of heat under the hood. I decided to wrap mine with Thermo-Tec header wrap. I did mine bass-ackwards, though. I had mine installed last July with no treatment. The increased heat was deffinately noticeable, especially when off-road. Keep in mind, too, that I have a supercharger generating extra heat. I didn't get around to wrapping mine until February of this year.
After installing the headers, I notice my fuel economy went up slightly, too. Not substantial, but about .5-.7 mpg.
Why did I pick Edelbrock over TRD? Price, for one. When I was serious about buying them, I found TRD headers for $550. They have increased in price since then. I think $800 or more is absolutely rediculous. My Edelbrocks were $300. I had a shop install them.
I also went with the Edelbrocks because of their reputation. They've been around a while and they make a good product. TRD headers are made by Thorley. I researched Thorley and found that they make good products, but their headers tend to warp at the flange. Gadget said the same thing. I confirmed this with several hot rodder friends.

If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't change anything. I am very pleased with the Edelbrock headers.

Now I am thinking TRD, I like quality.

See if they will match another dealer's price + 15% off...if they want a sale then you're set!

Good idea, but even with a discount, they are still $925. When compared to $500 for the Downey's, well, I just cant justify it. Especially with my wife. She doesnt understand why I want to spend $500 on headers. I tell her so I can smoke ricers. Then she understands, well not really.

I am currently saving up for the Downey's, but we'll see. My mind has been changed before.

I would agree with you, but my wife is the same person that smoked riced out honda's in her old 92 Maxima SE on numerous occasions, did a burn-out across the movie theatre parking lot (after I told her that girls didnt know how to burn-out ) and smoked me in my old Tacoma the first night we met each other.

So, marriage isn't all that bad! Just takes a little convincing to get the toys you want.

Now she has an Accord, so that put an end to the "smoking people" thing.

TRD made my toyota factory parts always seem to be better, but WOW at the price. thats a good bit to pay for headers. Just curious. is that the whole thing? where it wraps around the back of the motor and all? or just the main headers?

The whole thing. Everything needed to do the install, minus the screaming, cursing, bruised knuckles, cut fingers, tool trips to Sears, and trip to the muffler shop for the Cat flange (4Runners only).

I ended up with HPC coated Edelbrock's BTW.

I have new 3.4 factory exhaust gaskets I'll let go for $50 pr. plus shipping . BTW the 14mm "Gearwrench" w/flex head is a great tool to have when installing headers .

The stock gaskets would not work with the Edelbrock's. I went with Edelbrock's provided gaskets. FYI.
