Electric fan conversion

I just bought a Taurus electric fan and a variable speed electric fan controller. Does anyone have any regrets after doing this conversion? Any problems going through deep water. I probably should have asked these questions before I dropped $200.

Just did mine too. I paid 75.00 for the pepboys 12" fan. Running about 150 -175* - behind supra repro 3 core aluminum.

Ritzy has done this mod and extensively written about it.

If you have not already read his fine writeup I encourage you to find it.

If you need help stay in touch.

My Flex a lite would burn the fuse out if left on through water. To much effort to turn in H2O.

One reason you want to turn off the fan during a water crossing is that when the fan hits the water, it can flex enough to cut open your radiator.

As Ron mentioned I put the Taurus fan in my 98 here is my write up on how I installed mine. I used a rear heater switch for the fan control but had to rewire it and covered how I did that as well. Here is the link to help you see what I did and how you could incorporate what I learned into your own installation. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/i...en-3-a-143855/ good luck and any other questions just ask, happy to input my experiences.

Nice write up Ritzy. Do you have any idea what your water temp is with the E fan? Does your temp stay pretty consistent?

I took my 4runner to my local Toyota dealer and they used their infra red temp sensor and they showed temp at the radiator upper hose point to be around 144 degrees. when I put the fan into manual high speed, it dropped like 8 degrees in less then 2 minutes. I set my relay temp setting to come on just above normal operating temp and so far has been practically flawless. I have had a few minor issues but that was dealing with my own installation and setting the thermostat properly. I actually have not had the fan come on in normal driving situtations in months! The temp stays right at normal operating temp and shows on my gauge cluster at about 1/3 all the time.

Nice. Yeah that shroud job was clean. I saved your thread for future reference.

I have been real happy with mine too. I haven't hooked up a temp relay yet and have been just using a manual switch, but the radiator I picked up is so efficient I hardly have to run my fan either. Good times.
