Do you have DRL's? I know some of you with newer models probably have them straight from the factory, and I'm sure some of you have added aftermarket foglights that are on all the time.

I'm thinking about playing with the wiring for my headlights and hooking them up to run all the time. I know the bulbs will be running all the time and will burn out faster, are there any other downsides. In the evenings I'll still have to flip the switch to turn on my tail lights, that could be another problem.

Anyone got anything to add...

I disabled my DRLs within days of owning my truck... I can tell when it's dark enough for me to turn on my lights and don't need my car to do it for me when it's a bright, sunny day.

Ya I have been planning to do the same. Drives me nuts, fire up the truck and everything goes on.

It's becoming the standard to have them on all vehicles. I am pretty sure they are mandatory on all vehicles in Canada if I remember right. I turn on my lights every time I get in the car, it's about being seen rather than what you can see. If you get into an accident one of the questions they ask is if you had your light on or not, studies have shown that daytime running lights help reduce acidents even if it is by a small percentage.

If your 4Runner is a 1990 ow come you've got them and I don't? Seems like 90 is a pretty early year to have DRL's.

Ya i understand that and you are right that DTR light for 90 and newer here are mandatory but to have everything turn on( dash, tail lights ...). I would be happier with just my headlight turning on not everything else.

 

Yeah, that'd be irritating and a little wasteful. You must have bulbs blowin all the time. Hehe.

Sounds like someone wanted to rig it up with running lights and just hooked everything up to be on all the time.

your dash lights up?? thats stupid.

i dont mind mine.. in fact i usually just leave my headlights on in full all time thanks to auto shut off.

my fog lights are switch operated though, so i choose when theyre on.

 

when i bought the truck all the dash light were burnt out. do all the 2nd gen runners do that, everything lighting up or is mine just special?????

 

My '91 (Canadian) lights up everything BUT the dash lights. Still, it was a pain, especially those times I really didn't WANT them on

 

Yeah I removed my DRL's as soon as I got my truck!!
They tend to strain the bulbs, causing them to burn out quicker!!

 

If all you're looking for are lights on full time, why not install a pair of foglights and have them on full time with a switch to kill 'em if you need to? They don't HAVE to be headlights...
