Daystar 4th gen 1" front lift question
On the daystar 1" front lift part #kto9117 does anyone know if the coil spring must be compressed and removed or does the spacer go on top of the strut assembly without compressing the spring?

i think you will need to compress it and remove the top plate to replace the studs that go thru the top plate. i don't remember it exactly as i'm gettin old and forgetting the details but i do remember removing the top plate to replace the studs when i help install a daystar kit on a 4th gen.

spacers.
You will have to remove the coil/shock assembly, compress the coil, remove the top coil compression nut, and slide the spacer in. At least that's how I did my tuff country spacers.

Btw are you planning on leveling the 4runner? if so, I think you'll want to get the full 2.5" front as the 1" won't do you much justice.
Talk to Biff (Victor) as I helped him install the 2.5" fronts.

I had the 1" Daystar spacer installed on my 2004 T4R last week and you definitely need to remover the coil/shock assembly, compress the coil, remove the top coil compression nut, and slide the spacer in. Personally I would stay away from anything larger than 1" as my current front and rear measurements are 35 1/2" and 35 1/4" respectively, so I'm slightly nose up. I wonder if NE will fab me a custom 1/2" rear spacer????

I raised the front 1" with a floor jack and you are right it really does not gain than much. I thought that if spacers would just slide in and the springs did not have to be compressed etc. it might be ok, but I will get a 2.5 lift because I need more clearance for rocks.
Thanks for all the replies.

the only way you could do it without having to compress the coil would be to use a top out spacer. some people ask us to make them top out spacers alone because they don't want to deal with compressing the coil ... that's all fine and dandy, save for the fact that when you put a spacer on top of the top plate, you'll want longer studs, and to get longer studs, you have to compress the coil.
