Cone Filter

Put it on today, sounds really good on the mid-high revs! Had a mounting bracket my dad made me left over from air horns on my old car that worked perfect for securing it. All I had laying around the garage was some rope, so that will have to do til i get something better.

What type of filter did you go with? It looks like the K&N cone but I could be wrong. Nice work none the less! Did you notice any perf gains? I saw a bit better throttle response and pickup when I added mine.

You guys dont think your just sucking hot air from the engine with no hood like the K&N kit provides? Ever thought of making something simmilar to that? Sucking hot air ain't gonna help with performance!

Those things only offer 1 thing, more air flow, but that is it. It will suck in the warm air, which is far worse than better airflow, and can suck in water easier also....

yes, that is true... but, i'm not huge off roader (not forwarding any streams any time soon...) so i'm not to worried about that. I mostly like the sound it makes. It also supposidly helps fuel consumption... (less restriction) idono... i may switch back to the box while down in Savannah during the summer if its really that bad, but up here in the mtns it isn't bad.

Hey, if you find it doesn't work, you can always take it off and put on he stock box. It is worth a try. I was going to get the same thing, but from what I had heard, the drawbacks outweighed the benefits, but hey, maybe you guys find the benefits more. I am interested in hearing any benefits that you may find. I am looking to get some more air into my engine and all I can think of now is drilling holes into my airbox. Let us know what you find out! Thanks! :fireman:

I'm with turboale - I don't plan on going through any kind of deep water with my truck. The possibility of water splashing up when hitting a deep puddle is not too severe because it's location is pretty well protected. Injen makes a heat shield for the filter, but I'm not too worried about it. There's a helluva lot more open air circulating in my engine compartment then 99% of the sports cars that generally use cold air intakes. I never expected any significant gain in anything from it, but it looks good, sounds good and as I said I did notice a little bit more throttle response. Maybe I'd benefit from the heat shield, but I'm not losing sleep over it.
