Chop top 3rd Gen 4Runner, advice please

Hello all. I'm not on here much bit I'm all over T4R.org. I just bought my 6th 3rd Gen 4Runner. (I currently own 3). I bought the first one a little over a year ago and as you can tell, I'm hooked.

Anyway, the 6th one is a '97 SR5, 5 speed, 4x4 with the eLocker. 195K miles.

It's pretty rough though. I'm fine with tackling the mechanical issues on it and even some of the cosmetic issues. But, I've wanted a 1st Gen for a long time. Now I'm thinking it would be cool to have a 3rd Gen with the back cut off.

It's hit in the hatch area already. Quarters are fine but the hatch is toast. Thinking of cutting it right behind the rear doors and in front of the rear cargo glass. I saw another member on here did it but it looks like his build thread died a few years ago, haven't seen much on it since.

Anyone know of anyone who's done this? Could you please link me to their build thread? I'm not sure I have the balls to cut the roof off without doing a lot of homework on it first. I'd really appreciate any and all input and help.

Thanks in advance,

PitBullRescuer.

James, thank you sir. That's not the thread I was thinking off but I did read that thread a while ago. Honestly, I forgot about that. I'm looking to go a little different than that but defy itely a good start.

I'm not looking to reuse the hatch at all,mi want it open. I was thinking (and hoping) I could just use a Taco tailgate to close up the rear. But I'll pm him for advice.

Thank you, I appreciate your help.

Sorry to raise this thread from the dead but I was just curious how your chop top turned out. I'm in the middle of one right now.
