Check Engine light.. duhhhh

OKay, Im confused.

I havent done anything to my 4runner for the past few weeks. Last thing I did was the Body lift, and that was like a month ago.

Now, all of a sudden, I turn my runner on, and my check engine light is on. I drove it around, no problems at all... Been like this all day.

I dont hear, see or feel anything wrong.

What do I do? How do you guys get allt hese diagnostic codes?

SC,

Did you check if it was the halogen fluid?!?!

You need a code reader to check the cause of the CEL. A few of us have the Auterra code reader. Search that term. Harbor Fright has a cheap code reader for under fiddy dollahs. Or your local auto parts store *might* plug their reader and let you know (free or at a price).

did you recently fill up on gas before this started happening? sometimes the gas cap causes the light to come on.

That or the the TPS (throttle positioning sensor). Had my CEL on for that for close to a month until it finally started stalling on me :pat:
That's when I figured it was time to do something about it

Had a 96 Taco that did the same thing (about 3-4 months ago) and it turned out to be the O2 sensor. It seemed to drive and act the same as if nothing was wrong.

You're lucky! When I lived out there I had an O2 sensor go bad. Went to 3 different auto zones in the east bay trying to get them to do something similar for me. No one would budge, so I ended up just buying the darn thing. Some sort of regulation was passed that prohibits them from doing it.

If you're check engine light is on, the first thing I would do is hit you're truck with a little prop-wash.....sometimes it's hard to find, but if you swing by the local municipal airport you can find some pretty easy, just ask around.
