car alarms

Hi:

I have a 99 4runner and want to get an alarm installed with perhaps an auto ignition start? Any suggestions. In my old Accord I had a clifford and was happy with it, but would not like to spend that much money.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Dave

Check with CarToys
www.cartoys.com

I got mine installed a few summers back at the Federal Way CarToys.

I have the DEI Python 650, and the auto start can be added to it.
Great alarm, and I also got the pager with it also which will transmit 1 mile to a pager you carry if someone tirps one of your zones.

A few of their toys.

Stick with Viper/Hornet or any other DEI alternate. The "clifford" line does not exist anymore, they are now owned and operated by DEI and all of the old brains and other misc. clifford stuff is long gone.

I have the factory alarm in my 94 but got no remotes when I bought the truck. Dealer wants something like $100 for a remote. Ack. Wish I had held onto at least one from my old Camry.

I have a Viper alarm in my rig with the remote start. I would stick with a DEI product.

$$$?

How much did that alarm and pager system set you back? Parts and labor?

I had an alarm w/remote starter installed when my Runner was a few days old. It cost me $450 back in '97 - Excalibur. The transmitter stop communicating with the brain, and the locks intermittently lock and unlock themselves while I drive (what a PITA!), and the shop has since shut its doors...

I'm looking at getting a system with a pager as well, and doing the install myself so I'll know what goes where. Will I have a problem since someone has already hacked my wires???

I just bought a remote for my 95 at the dealer and it was $45 and they programmed it for free. If you would like me to get one for your 94 victor it may be cheaper here...and then you could get it programmed there...let me know!

Me?
I think with labor and all it was a little over $500, and may have been close to $600.

The receipt is around somewhere, but it was in that range.
It's a great alarm.

I have a Compustar and I can't complain. Keyless ignition too! Vehicle paging system, alarm paging system, keyless entry. I have unpluged my siren so if anyone does break in It will page my keys ant tell me someone is breaking in to my car. It works 1/4 mile away. The key unit has a screen that lets me know if a door is open or if my car is running. It is pretty nice...

I have an Avital 3300 by DEI. It sells for $299 at BestBuy installed. I bought mine on eBay, $120 shipped.

It is really easy to install, and you can add a power window control (DEI 529T) for about $35.

I am extremely happy with it so far, and I haven't even hooked up the rear window yet. The remote start works very well, and it is the coolest feature.

One more thing:

Check the12volt.com for your vehicle's wiring information. It is a really good resource.

Torboale-
I had the dealer throw in keyless entry and he insisted on giving me keyless ignition too, so they ended up giving me the compustar system because it was the only one compatable with a 5 speed manual transmission. So I think it was like $800or something. It rocks! Inside buildings from yards away I can have the air conditioning turn on. cooling down my car, ready for me to hop in...or at the slopes I can have the heater running for whenever i'm ready to go!

Let me call the dealer in the morning. I recall them wanting quite a bit more than $45 but obviously that would be a great price. I'll let you know - BTW thanks for the offer.

no problem Victor...if you read this before you call the dealership ask them which type of alarm you have. I believe there is two types that were installed in the second gens. The dealership told me they both use the same remote but one takes a lot longer to program than the other. Luckily I had the one that the tech only had to push three buttons and I was out in five minutes so it was free. I have my receipt in the runner for the remote so ill double check it tomorrow as well, but im pretty sure it was $45.

Lynx and Aladdin 2000 series alarms...

Has anybody heard of, used, or installed an alarm from Lynx or Aladdin? These both offer LCD remotes and long range functionality. The Lynx is about $370, and the Aladdin is about $250.

All of you Compustar fans... that ˟˟˟˟˟ ain't cheap!! There's a guy on eBay offering his technical expertise to help with the installation of Compustar's SS alarm. What's that about?

All thoughts and impressions are welcome...
