What do you guys think about LCEs EFI Pro Cam: (For my 22RE.)

Should I install new rockers with this cam? Thanks.

From what I gather, that long a duration will make for tricky tuning on the EFI engine. I understand that cam timing is also critical. If you have shaved the head then the cam timing gets retarded and that is supposed to be highly detrimental to power with a big cam like that so beware.
There have been some great discussions on cams over on 4x4Wire which I just got finished searching, incidentally. I am about to upgrade my cam as well. I had decided on EB's 268 cam (available at www.engnbldr.com) but he's out of stock right now and I'm in a pinch so I'll probably run the stock stick for a while.

 

Is this for a daily driver?

 

Yes, it's my daily driver. I wasn't sure if this cam would be to extreme, but it's included in the LCE kit. Should I consider a more milder cam? Thanks.

Thats alot of cam fer such a small motor such as the 22re.Never mind lift @440 thousands,but with that much duration,yer going to lose lots of low end torq,vacume,and it will have a poor idle.Four a daily driver i wouldnt go over about 210 degrees duration,and even less four a 4x4.

 

I don't know much about cams, but on his, the intake lift is .416 vs. the LCE .440 and his exhuast lift .430 vs. the LCE .440. Would the LCE lift be harder on the 22RE? Or should I go with something less?

Does anyone have any good experience with cams for a 22RE? Thanks.

 

As far as over all power goes, the more lift the better,but the do tend to wear the valve springs out quicker,replace the springs with some high quality aftermarket ones that can take the added lift.

 

www.engnbldr.com has a good choice of cams for the 22R.
See reviews about them on 4x4wire. Do a search on 22r cams on that board.
Here are the specs on the 3 22R cams he has.
All are on 110° lobe separation.

261C is 222° @ .050", 261° advertised, .410" lift.

268C/Torkr is 218° @ .050", 268° advertised, .425" lift

270/430 is 219° @ .050", . 270° advertised, .430" lift.

You'll notice that all those cams have considerably less duration than the LCE cam. Long duration is what kills your everyday driveability as mentioned by 93yoder. LCE's cam looks like it's ground with about 4* advance built in which should help with some of the low end, but still might be a little lopey for daily street use.
