When first started my runner idles a bit higher than normal. But after driving for 10 minutes the idle drops. Plus it doesn't shift into high gear as readily when cold. Again after a few minutes she runs fine. Is this normal??

My Taco does the same thing when it's cold. It idles higher to warm the engine up. Then drops down below 1k when it warms up. This is normal.

 

totally normal man - running synthetic (redline) in your tranny will help the cold shifting.

 

Most automatics won't shift into O.D. until the tranny fluid reaches a certain temperature. Usually you have to drive a few miles to get it warmed up enough. My runner will run at a higher idle as soon as I start it in the morning, then drop to a lower idle after 3 or 4 minutes. Every truck I have ever owned did this, so I think you're ok.

 

my 92 3.0 auto ,at 100k(60mph) 2500 rpm jumps to 3500 then back,i think its my temp sensor or shift cylinoid ,i hope its my temp sensor

 

every vehicle does this with FI and carburated with an electronic choke (im pretty sure) ....its perfectly normal and healthy for it. You should really let it heat up before driving around hard on it. espeicaly with an old engine.
