85 Speedo drive question

85 Speedo drive question
My 85 has long ago lost it's speedo. The cable seems fine. On removing the mechanical drive from the transmission the nylon gear appears visually OK but I cannot see the corresponding gear inside the tranny. Can some one tell me if the gear in the tranny is steel or if it is also nylon? If its steel I will take a flyer and try a new drive, (if I can find one). If it is also nylon/plastic then it may have to wait until the next clutch change when I can get to the tranny in relative comfort. Any input on this would be most welcome.

i got curious, is this like some interference/ noise
on some cable channel called speedo.... and the urgency to get it repaired...
hmmm nope, just a freakin speedometer cable making some annoying noise...
