Hey guys I'm thinking about putting some components in my front door. Like 6.5s. I've seen pics of some before but cant find them anymore. I looked through this whole thread.
Anybody here got components in the front doors of their 3rd gen pickup or their 2nd gen runner?

Do you get used to ported box,eh?
You know I was gonna port it in the middle but ran out of 1" mdf so I had to port on the side. 1" mdf isn't cheap! 50 bucks a sheet! And also, I tried to bend mdf and it failed. So I cut the little piece of mdf at 45 degrees for port and did some sanding and call it a day. It's kinda like an aeroport. It breathes much easier for the subs rather than straight port.

Stereo noob question?
Hi guys,
So I'm not into hardcore stereo systems like all of you, but I do feel the need to add a little bump in the 4runner. My vehicle will be built more as an expedition rig including a drawer system. So there in lies my question.
I was thinking of building a drawer system with a hidden sub on one side. On one side the drawer would be full length, but on the other side it would only be a half drawer. I was thinking a small sealed enclosure and just an 8" sub countersunk into the top.
Now I know this will not produce near as much bass as all of your systems, however I'm a slightly older guy with an 8 month old son who rides with me most of the time, so BIG bumpin would not fit my style. Any thoughts? Is an 8" a waste of time? Does anyone even do sealed enclosures anymore?
Thanks,
Aaron

Actually you would be surprised what an 8 inch subwoofer can do these days. The bigger the subwoofer the more air you move (if it's ported). In your case you do not want to make it ported so an 8 inch will provide a very punchy sound. A larger subwoofer that is ported will move more air and make more of a drone. For your case you will notice more bump in your music but nothing insane enough to flex your roof. I say that is a perfect choice. Get a good 8 inch sub and don't skimp out or else you will be disappointed.

I don't have components, just replacement stock 6.5s. I didn't care much for sound quality.

And yeah I'm used to it now. its definetley too much for the speakers that are in it now. I have NO midrange and the tweets are sad and unclear. Thats why im going with the components. and the stock speakers in my truck are 4s in the dash so id have to spend more to get the sound I want out of them.

just joking.I used to have four type r 12's that were in sealed box. Wish I made a ported box for them but never had a chance to do it.

SLYTLYSCRAMBLED, chea! congrats on breaking it! haha good thing is that i have my rearview mirror attached on the roof, not on the windshield. you are seriously underpowering subs. get the 2nd amp!
toylocost, most people prefer low tuned 30-34hz, but myself like high tuned to 40's hz just because I liked the way it is. maybe you could go to several car audio shop to listen ported box. are you sure you want a box that is tuned to 38 or 39hz? dont you want the port and subs firing toward to the back? i'm not sure what you are meaning of upside down, like SLYTY's sub box setup?
my new box will be under the window line as well

thats a pretty clean set up... little much for my standards... I have 2 12s with 1 1000w 2 channel amp and a 450w 4 channel amp w/ a bridge. its pretty clear, but I wanna add 6.5s in all 4 of the doors for a better all around sound. I have my bass at zero and still seems as if theres not enough highs or mids, especially since I listen to rock.

All I can say its louder than my old box.
