So I'm going to need to do this when I install my 62" springs. I don't think the stock parking brake lines will wnat to move that much.

So has anyone installed this device? Is it an easy install?

Any problems or things to watch out for. It seems like something I could do easily.

 

you cant use the line locks in cali can ya?

 

I don't trust it and think the all pro would perform better.

 

if line locks can hold a couple thousand hp dragster's front wheels I think it can hold a 4runner, but If you have veh inspections it wont pass

 

the dont check vehicles here for that unless you try to have it be a vehicle it isnt.. i mean liek a kit car, they will wnat to inspect a kit car before saying its street legal since you made it.... if its a street registered vehicle they wont bother....

also a linelock will hold a dragster for a few seconds, its differnt than holding it on a hill for hours....

 

line lock sounds like a good idea. tow trucks have them i trust them more than i trust a 1/8 cable

 

i have heard nothing but great things about those disc parking brakes mounted on the back of the t-case. If you frequently park on hills, rocks...etc it will be worth it. Its a relatively inexpensive upgrade and I plan on putting it on my truck soon, although I will probably go with the Sky Manufacturing one. There's a few companies that make these, all are similiar.

 

Yes, we put one on my buddy Vince's truggy last week. Took about 2 hours. He didn't have all the correct stock parking brake stuff and had to go to the bone yard and get it.

Other than that, it works awesome! He can easily stall the truck out in double low and the brake holds.

Very beefy outfit too. I can see if we can snap some pics tonight afterwork if you want to see one.

I've talked to a few folks who did not like the driveshaft brake. The disc on the t-case output flange caused driveshaft vibrations for one guy and I was also told it was tricky to keep adjusted.

I run the stock e-brake cable w/ 56" Alcan springs in back and it works fine. Longer springs won't move your axle back (by default) unless you plan to make new rear wheel wells in your body.

I did raise the e-brake cable mounting brkt. about an inch or two and did a few other tweaks (like relocating the frame clamps) to make it work:

I will most likely be using this on my truck too, One thing to be aware of though, If you have a stock open differential only one wheel whit the least amount of traction will be engaged! Normally this would not be of any concern, but some times it will be useless on the trails.

I'm not worried about the cable not making it in flex situations, I'm worried about when my truck is going fast and both sides max out down travel.
62" springs should net 18-20" of travel. Everyone else that I have seen with this setup was unable to run the stock brakes.

 

I mounted the All Pro brake some 6 months ago. Works great, no adjusting problems or noises whatsoever. Plenty of braking (holding?) action.
You need to be locked on those special occasions. One wheel can slip (with an open diff) on a slippery surface or steep hill causing the vehicle to move.
In your everydaydriving this doesn't matter.

 

I got the All Pro driveshaft brake. Put it in several months ago. Works great. Got any questions...PM/email.

 

Hey Waskilly, did the install come with good directions???

I guess the only concerns with the install I have are:

1: getting the dust cap off the flange. (I imagine I can use a gear puller I have)

2: how to hook up the cable itself.

3: unbolting bolts on the transfer case (won't this mess up the gasket seal?)


I live in north county San Diesgo and Allpro is just in Hemet. I might drive up and get one tomorrow.

 

I just ordered it shipping was only 12.oo and the drive is at least an hour each way.

The guy mentioned that the dust seal won't be very tight when it goes back on. He said to tack weld it. Any thoughts....?????

 

Don't sweat it, easy to install in less than an hour.

The front part of the OEM cable attaches to the AP bracket. You'll need a longer pin, you can get one at Lowe's. It was 5/16" and like 2" long and I just cut it down to fit and stuck in a cotter pin.
