SR5 w/moonroof, hitch, factory stereo with CD changer, new 265/75 16s, no e-locker and it is dark maroon.

The price is based upon full-retail Kelly Blue Book from a dealer. It looks like a good starting point to build from but add $5-6K and wow, it's up to $20K+.

I can afford it as it would be a daily driver (short commute to work).

The question, is full retail what I should expect to pay?

 

Kelly Blue Book (www.kbb.com) lists it at about $14,000 retail. But I'd bet you can get it for less if you know how to haggle. NEVER, EVER accept dealer price!!!!

 

no it isn't a fair price, sounds quite high, that is barely less than what I paid 3 years ago.

It is a 4wd. It has 50K miles and the previous owner traded it at a dealer who did a one-way oil change. They took oil out but did not put oil in. So, it has a new motor and clutch. It is in very good shape but I would not say excellent, it is not unblemished. The sales guy just called to follow-up with me. I don't think they'll move on their price too much. They have a lot of money in this one.

 

I actually went to Edmunds and went into Used Car Appraiser. They priced it at $15262 with the options. The low mileage must be what's driving the price. The question still remains, is a '99 4Runner worth Dealer Retail? I guess that's for me to decide.

 

Don't get too hung-up on mileage. I've sold 10+ year old Yota's with over 200,000 miles on them for near-retail what a Yota with 1/2 the mileage retails for. If the dealer won't budge, go elsewhere and be patient (unless you have money to burn).

 

You are going to want an e-locker if you do any wheeling. Don't compromise for something you don't want. Look at me, I bought my 96 without a locker, then had to swap one in because I couldn't stand being without it. I should have just been patient.

if you say "ok, i guess ill look elsewhere for someone who can negotiate with me" and they dont followup with a new offer or dont want to talk more about it, then you got off lucky.

 

Thats a lot of $$ for a 7 year old 4runner that had the engine replaced. Most likely whoever did the repairs did a good job, but I would rather pay for one that has the originals in it, no repairs. You just never know. Now, if they were asking $8-$10k, that might be a great deal, but $15k is a big chunk.

 

Check to see if the fuel gauge is any good by reading TSB EL-010 and confirming with the dealer it has been done.

If not, or they cannot confirm, deduct $1000.

 

Bought my '02 sport in excellent shape for $15,200. Had 87,000 miles on it though. But not a scratch on that thing.

 

I wanted the E-locker too but i found a nice/unique '96 5spd without it. For the price though i can't complain and as you did, i will just swap one in. In the long run i believe it'll be worth it.

OOO.... that one in denver is nice. Wish mine was a 5-speed. But i'm almost sure they didn't make them in 2002.

 

I bought a 99 4wd with 61,000 miles a few months ago for 12k from a dealer. It has leather sunroof, etc.no e locker tho

 

Is that 50,000 on the new motor or for the life of the car? Makes a difference in my mind.

 

Price seems reasonable to me. I paid $17K for my 2000 5-speed with e-locker just six months ago. I did my research and that was the going rate at the time. KBB now shows the vehicle is worth some $3K less than I bought it assuming the same mileage; so perhaps fuel prices have negatively affected SUV resale value. Who cares. I got an immaculate 55,000 mile vehicle for half it's original price. Keep in mind 5-speeds are highly-sought after, so given that, I think the price is fair.

My uncle just traded in his 2001 sequoia Limited and got 18k for it. It only had 70k on it. He got it goood

 

bought my 99 4x4 4runner no e-locker 86k miles,Sunroof, SR5 aftermarket radio, and a WAAG bush gaurd, not the limited for $14,600 before the gas inflation, the blue book was $15,800 and most were selling for $17,000+, Now i can pick one up under $10,000 Damn gas prices...

I bought my '00 with around 52k miles on it for around $15k. The condition was superb. Though it isn't 4wd and no locker. Hence why I am sort of in the market right now.
