3rd gen 4runner body lift question
#41
My extra inch now installed on the 99 Runner....
my body lift now complete and learned a lot along the way. I had my buddy Slava of Quality Auto (formerly with Irbis) install it.
Here is a shot straight on showing the gap of the ARB bumper. No I really don't think I will move the bumper for now...
second shot shows clearance of the sliders-this is why folks say to get the lift first then the sliders. Lots of room now to work around under there.
I had also ordered the poly bushings for the body mounts but discovered my Runner was equipped with a strange variation of the mounts-so the bushings did not match up. Just went with the 1" body lift instead .
A small hiccup we encountered was clearance for the 5 speed manual tranny. The even gears (2 and 4) did not want to engage properly. I had to open up the center console and remove the shifter knobs to get at the lower rubber boots. I removed the 4 sheet metal screws that hold the metal bezel piece in place against the body.
This was covered in 4crawler.com instructions under "Shifter Modifications" and Roger Brown himself answered every question I had almost in real time online. Very glad I did this lift and even more glad I did not attempt to install it myself.

I have Roger's 1.5" body lift kit on a 92 pickup. Normally not a fan of body lift but I 3.4 swapped and I didnt want to cut the hood. No ill effects thus far, and it MUCHO easier to work on components under the truck.
Also, when I install my dual cases later this month, I can get Budbuilt to custom bend me a crossmember that will tuck the transfer case up a bit higher with having to buy a rotated adapter..........at least thats the plan.

built my front bumper w/o solid specs on winch dimensions (stupid) and may need to put a 1" body lift (tire fitment as well). point is, if anyone can point me in the direction of some good 85 picks with a 1" bl i would greatly appreciate it...

Here is a '94 pickup w/ ARB bumper and 1" body lift:

Gap is not very noticeable, I think the owner hit some of the exposed sheet metal (normally hidden by the stock bumper) w/ black paint to make it look uniform.

well the thing is, I've already got close to a half inch gap from stock. Dunno why, but just ended up that way. I'm going 1" regardless, but sucks cus if I wanted to go more down the line I'll have to fab those arb mounts.. which I don't wanna get too far from the center of the frame for winching even if the end plate is welded.

I've had a 3in BL on my 1991 2nd gen 4Runner since 1992. To date, the only problem I've had with it is the 2 rear mounts rusted through the floor. A quick trip to the garage, 2 welded in, 4in x 6in 1/4in metal plates and we are as good as new. And this only happened last year and probably because I missed a few years of undercoating. As far as the CG issue...never had a problem. I'm running 33s on 8in wide rims, not rubbing what so ever. Just my 2cents worth...

Hey Ron...that gap between your ARB and body looks massive lol.
you said you installed a 1" body lift..but it looks more like a 2" or 2.5" lol
anybody else notice that?
i like your runner though Ron

thanks camo but I can't take any credit for the install itself-I just whipped out the wallet
yah mine is an inch but the blocks measure more like 1.25 when you first get them. Honestly I am inclined to leave as is -it gives the body more room to not get pinched up when off roading for example. Brian has the correct solution however.
