Mikedog,
I know exactly what you mean about the old "Oh What a Feeling" ads that Toyota used back in the '80s. It seems that Toyota does not put the emphasis on quality that it used to. The emphasis is more on quanitiy now. I'm not bashing anyone's vehicle here, Toyota still makes the best rigs (in my opinion) out there, and my statement goes more for the cars than trucks. I worked on two '03 Camrys last night, both under 10K mi. They both had rattles, one from the front suspension, the other from the interior. Aside from headgasket issues back in the mid-nineties and brake pulsation issues in the Tundra, Toyota's rigs are still pretty trouble-free. I have had two 2.7 Liter 3RZ 4 cylinder Tacomas come in with broken crankshaft pulley bolts:pat:
In both cases I ended up pulling the engine and putting a new crankshaft in because the end of the snout was beat up bad.
To answer your question about oil, I use 5W 30 and 10W 30 Mobil where I work and 10W 30 is what goes in the higher mileage units. It's also what I use in mine. I've always used Toyota filters and changed it every 2,500 - 3,000 mi.

Before I buy
Hello, I am thinking of buying an 88 Toyota with 500,000 miles on it.
He's asking 1600 and he says nothing has went wrong with it and it runs
Fine. Should I or should I not buy it?
