2001 4runner Keyless Remote Programming

Does anyone know how to program a keyless entry remote for 2001 4Runner SR5? Is there a write up somewhere on how to do this?

Thanks,
-- Andrey

Try this it worked for me:

99 Toyota Factory Alarm Repair Manual

Start registration of recognition„h code
The vehicle should be in the following conditions„h
1. The key is not inserted in the ignition key cylinder.
2. Drivers door is open (other doors are closed)
3. Drivers door is unlocked
Insert the key into the ignition„h key cylinder, then pull it out

Within 40 secs.
Press the door lock„h control switch (for manual operation) 5 times to LOCK/UNLOCK at approx. 1sec. Interval
1. Lock ˇV unlock
2. Lock ˇV unlock
3. Lock ˇV unlock
4. Lock ˇV unlock
5. Lock ˇV unlock

Close the drivers door, then open it.„h
„h Again press the door lock control switch (for manual operation) 5 times to LOCK/UNLOCK at approx. 1 sec. Interval
1. Lock ˇV unlock
2. Lock ˇV unlock
3. Lock ˇV unlock
4. Lock ˇV unlock

Insert the key into the„h ignition key cylinder.
Turn the ignition switch from on to lock at approx.„h 1 sec. interval 1 to 5 times to select the mode.

Add Mode
ON ˇV LOCK„h change occurs 1 times

Confirmation mode
ON ˇV LOCK change occurs 3„h times

Rewrite mode
ON ˇV LOCK change occurs 2 times„h

Prohibition mode
ON ˇV LOCK change occurs 5 times„h

Pull out„h the key plate from the ignition key cylinder
When add mode or rewrite mode„h is selected.
Body ECU automatically performs the LOCK-UNLOCK operation once or twice at 1 sec. interval to inform the operator that either the add mode or rewrite mode has been selected

LOCK-UNLOCK occurs once indicates that add mode has been selected
LOCK-UNLOCK occurs twice indicates that rewrite mode has been selected

Press the lock and unlock switches on the transmitter„h switch simultaneously for less then 1.5 sec.
Again press either of switches„h on the transmitter switch for more than 1 sec.

Body ECU automatically performs LOCK-UNLOCK operation once or twice at a 1 sec interval to inform the operator that it has received the signal from the transmitter

LOCK-UNLOCK occurs once ˇV registration of recognition code is completed
LOCK-UNLOCK occurs twice ˇV registration of recognition code has not been completed.
„h Recognition code received first time and second time did not match.

If they are not performed, the mode returns to the normal mode, then start with ˇ§start registration of recognition codeˇ¨.

Proceed to finish registration

If even one of the following conditions is satisfied, registration of recognition codes in completed.
40 secs. Elapses since the„h body ECU response
the driverˇ¦s door is closed„h
the key plate is„h inserted in the ignition key cylinder.
4 types recognition codes are„h registered at one time.

Registration of recognition codes(add mode or rewrite mode) is completed.

I don't know how to stop the beeps, but here is a text file of the same instructions if that's easier for anyone. They worked great for me.

I just got a remote with no battery inside. Luckily I already had one so I could determine what size battery to buy. It takes a CR2016 if anyone needed to know that.

Yep, this is not in plain English. Where does the remote come in? How do you program it to unlock the doors and roll down the window in the back? Registration, confirmation...? Anyone speak 'Toyota Mechanic' so that I don't have to pay one to make my remote work? I was only able to make the doors lock and unlock by themselves after locking them and unlocking them 5 times and turning on and off the ignition 5 times...what's next?

Edit: My battery was dead. So yeah, that could've been it, the reason why it wouldn't program. Once it confirmed by locking and unlocking on it's own, I was set.

Cannot get the system to lock & unlock itself to show It is ready for remote entry

Hey everyone, I'm new here, it looked like the best place to come for help. I cannot get the system to lock & unlock itself to show It is ready for remote entry. I've tried about 3 different sets of instruction for programing the remote.
It just stopped working one day after 6 years with no problems. I've been trying to re-program the remote for about 3 months & no luck. Then one day my daughter asks to use the 4Runner and it works. It worked for one week, then stopped again. any ideas?
