what year is my 3.4?

Alright so I bought a 3.4 engine from a guy that said it was an 04 but mike from offroad solutions told me I have a wiring harness and throttle body system of a 1996. It also had the newer style manifolds which leaves me confused. Also is there a way to tell the mileage? A number on the block that I could possibly give the dealer to find out? Any help is appreciated I've searched but maybe Im not typing key words?

Thanks, Tashone

Perhaps your engine came out of a 2004 The person selling could be clueless as well.

Now think as far as I know these engines have no black boxes yet!! to record your every move .

No way to know what mileage you might have

Did you see this engine run or did it come all in pieces ??

Just what do you mean by newer style manifolds ????

If you have a 96 wiring harness just what ECM do you have??

There should be a serial number on the engine but since I never had need for it i never looked for it.

The big difference between the two is presumably that '04 is throttle-by-wire and '96 is direct cable throttle control as are the other years up to 2000. If the harness includes the front O2 sensor, then there are differences between the A/F type sensor on '99-'00 Cali.'s and all '01 and up versus the narrowband O2's on the '99-'00 Federal and all '98 and earlier. The exhaust manifolds are also different with the Cali. type system.

I can't think why he would say a '96 with the later manifold instead of just a 2000 Cali.
