Well fellas, bad news. I just got off of the phone with the mechanic at the yard and he said it was my fault for puttin coolant dye in the radiator, causing the radiator to clog and overheat the motor. He said the head is cracked, without even looking at it, and wants 200 to put another used one on. Plus he wants me to buy another radiator, because and I quote, "We can't warranty it with the one you have". I think not . If im going to spend that much money I will just buy a brand new one and do it myself. Its not like I havn't built one before.

I do know one thing though, I will never buy used again. I will just build and fix what I have. I will just be better off that way.

HOLY CRAP, Z! I'm so sorry, ...but yes, at least you'll KNOW THAT YOU KNOW THAT YOU KNOW what's going on in there.... And its' FAR MORE tolerable to deal with your own "OOPS" than it is "I just went this route to save money and put the responsibility on ''INSERT HERE", ....and NOW, WTHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH????" I think I can say, justifiably, now, ...."I'VE SEEN THIS MOVIE!" lol. Hell, I did EVERYTHING new, ....OR AT LEAST I THOUGHT! Of course, ......as you know, a year later, ...yeah, lol.

Good on ya, Z, ...wish I was closer, we'd knock it out in a day! I'm sure you will anyway!

man sorry to hear that Z tough break. Now I don't know a whole lot but it seems to me that this mechanic would have to look at the head to determine if it was cracked. I could be wrong though it been known to happen before.

Oh I know it man. The last 22R I built lasted forever and ran killer. However I decide to go, itll only take me a day or so.

Yeah thats what I was thinkin. The block could be cracked or warped. It could be the head but it couldn't be too. All I know is there is $700 sittin out there that I cant do anything with.

go get your block, buy an engnbldr head, and rebuild the top end.
i honestly doubt you warped or cracked the block.
that takes a serious amount of heat.

Thats what I was thinkin, but was it warped or cracked before I got it? I am prolly goin to go the route of an engnbldr head. It seems to be the easy way for me at the moment.

Oh yeah, just remembered. I have had this truck just a few days past a year.

Ok boys, this is what I am going to do: flush the system, replace the thermostat and give 'er a try. I have to talked to some of my mechanic buddies and they said the coolant could have been two different types that didnt mix well and became sludge. So now I have new coolant and will be tryin it out today. I have my fingers crossed. Lets hope for the best.

What are you trying to do/find out, Z? Are you gonna run it and see if it was just a bad Thermostat, or if it's indeed the head, block?...... etc.? lol. Just curious. BEST WISHES, HOMIE!

Thanks for the luck guys. I havn't worked on it recently. I have been building a new 22r for the 85. If my idea for a fix doesn't work we have builder block that I am gonna use for a new motor. Its bored .30 over. The block is good. It needs a crank but I will possibly use the current motor as a parts donor. (If everything specs out) I would end up buyin a new head, goin with a bigger cam, and anything else that I can use to get the most power out of it.

No blown mental gasket here. Im not really worried about it at the moment. All I have on my mind is fixin the 85, so I have something to drive at least.

Heres the builder block that I might be usin

Its like brand new and only has 20k on it.
